Position Description:

 
The Project Safety Manager will work with the BUSD, PX, PM and Superintendents in adhering to company safety, health, environmental and loss control policies.  Oversees, leads, directs and enforces safety;  works on construction projects to identify, eliminate, and control hazardous conditions that may lead to injury and or property damage using job specific safety standards, best management practices, and Injury Free Environment Techniques.  The Project Safety Manager will have supervisory responsibility for Assistant Project Safety Managers in his/her area of responsibility (if applicable) and will report to the Business Unit Safety Director (BUSD) of the local Business Unit.
 


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 


Oversees and makes decisions related to project safety, health and environmental policies such as:
 Make decisions related to work stoppage when circumstances are related to an immediate danger to life and health on a project
Recommend and iimplement corrective action based on policies, guidelies and procedures.
Investigate and resolve issues on behalf of Turner.  Communicate with project staff and subcontractors in connection with resolving field safety issues.
Provide leadership on the project and build working relationships with project staff and each Subcontractor Safety Representative to ensure porpoer compliance.
Enforce safe work practices and safe working conditions in accordance with all State, Federal, Local regulations, and owner/contractual requirements.
Supervise and provide guidance for development of Assistant Project Safety Managers (if applicable).
Educate and advise project staff on safety guidelines and policies.
Administer the drug screening program for project.
Responsible for reducing Project Incident Rates by meeting or exceeding established BU goals.
Manage all injuries on project; must accompany worker to medical clinic and be present at all follow up treatments.
Manage project safety budget (if applicable).
Manage regulatory exposures to zero citiations.
 
Takes measures and implements the overall site safety program as required; ensures subcontracor compliance with Turner standards and all applicable safety codes and regulations.  Responsitilibes include:
 Contribute to the development of the overall project safety program.
Conduct training and safety meetings.
Create safety reports for the project, analyze metrics and make recommendatiohns for improvement over baseline.
Review and make recommendations related to subcontractor safety programs.
Evaluate need for training and make recommendations to subcontractors.
Conduct safety audits, issue report of violations and require immediate corrective action by subcontractors.
Investigate and report claim information to BUSD and local claims manager.
 
May perform other duties as necessary or assigned.
 
Qualifications:


 A four year degree in Safety and Health or equivalent is preferred with at least three (3) years of safety experience OR combination of education / multiple years experience in building construction, with a demonstrated knowledge of safety / environmental principles and techniques.
CHST Certification is strongly preferred.
Demonstrated ability to identify known potential exposures and lead implement of corrective actions.
Demonstrated computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office suite porgrams.
Deomonstrated management, leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing.
Demonstrated ability to train others.
 
 


Physical Demands and Work Environment:

 


Physical Demands:     Performance of the required duties will require physical ability to climb permanent and temporary stairs, passenger use of construction personnel hoists, ability to climb ladders and negotiate work areas under construction. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.  Performing this job requires use of hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, sit, talk and hear, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
 
Work Environment:  While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works on-site at the construction work site where the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts; high precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock.  The noise in these work environments is usually moderate to very loud.
