Manage projects to provide high quality and accurate right of way and construction plans in accordance with applicable design criteria, standards, and specifications. Lead project team performance to ensure goals and objectives are achieved. Perform special duties as assigned.
How you will contribute:
Assemble Project Teams: Participate or lead project teams as assigned. Ensure timely communications between project team members and stakeholders. Ensure information is technically accurate and effectively disseminated. Review and resolve challenges to enhance team performance.
Budget Management : Prepare and submit budgets as needed.
Communications Management : Communicate effectively with customers internal and external to VDOT including local governments, elected officials, citizen groups, and FHWA.
Perform duties as assigned.: Perform duties, tasks, activities and/or projects as assigned.
Project Management: Manage and oversee consultant design and contract plan development for highway projects of varying complexity in compliance with project scope. Provide direction and coordination for project activities, integrating team member deliverables and budgets. Establish schedules and budgets for complex roadway plans. Develop, manage and monitor scope, schedule and estimate for assigned projects for on-time, on-budget delivery. Coordinate with other divisions to ensure project segments remain on schedule. Responsible for accomplishing tasks or ensuring others accomplish tasks for successful project delivery.
Roadway Design : Develop roadway design for a wide range of transportation projects. Provide technical direction and support to staff in the application of VDOT's standards, specifications, policies, and procedures in the development of transportation projects.

Skill in building networks and relationships with employees, field personnel, contractors, manufactures and FHWA representatives.
Skill in the use of computers and software application, preferably MS office.
Minimum Qualifications:
Ability to investigate and resolve design issues.
Ability to plan, coordinate and manage multiple projects.
Knowledge of civil engineering principles related to roadway design and standard design technical knowledge.
Knowledge of principles and practices of project management.
Skill in contract management, change management and team leadership.
Valid driver’s license.
Additional Considerations:
A combination of training, experience or education in Civil Engineering, or related field is desired.
American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) credential is desired.
Certification as Project Management Professional (PMP) is desired.
Certified Construction Manager (CCM) is desired.
Engineer in Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE) registration is desired.
Knowledge of roadway design criteria, construction methods, standards, specifications, materials to include VDOT Road and Bridge Specifications and Standards is desired.
Knowledge of roadway project management, design and/or construction is desired.
