VDOT’s Fredericksburg District has exciting an opportunity available in its Structure and Bridge Department. We are seeking qualified candidates to fill a Bridge Repair Supervisor vacancy. This position oversees a work crew responsible for repairing, maintaining, and replacing of bridges and structures. They will stablish daily work goals, monitor performance, provide on-going coaching, and document and evaluate work accomplishments.

Required skills for job & position:
• Knowledge of supervisory practices and procedures and ability to manage individual and team performance successfully
• Skill in the operation and maintenance of light and medium equipment used for bridge maintenance and repair
• Ability to work at heights, over and, in water, in heavy traffic and other adverse conditions
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
• Ability to read and interpret bridge and structure plans and specifications
• Ability to plan work schedules and identify and assign manpower, materials, and equipment needed to accomplish the job


 


Minimum Qualifications


• Valid driver's license
• Considerable skill in the use of various carpentry tools, concrete forming, finishing methods, fabricating steel components and welding
• Knowledge of structure, bridge construction and maintenance methods, procedures, practices, and equipment
• Skill in the use of computers and software applications
• Ability to lead, direct, and train others
• Ability to obtain Flagger, Erosion and Sediment Control Inspector certifications.
• Ability to perform heavy manual labor, operate and maintain light and medium equipment used for bridge maintenance and repair
• Considerable knowledge of safety policies, procedures, and programs applicable to highway and bridge maintenance work, equipment, and tools
• Ability to obtain valid CDL and DOT medical card within 11 months of employment and maintain thereafter. Must comply with DOT and VDOT policies and standards when operating CDL equipment.
• Knowledge of basic inventory practices and procedures and ability to complete reports and maintain records

Note: Safety shoes are required for this position


 


Additional Considerations

Therefore, advertised rates of pay may or may not align with the Commonwealth pay bands.

NOTE: All drivers hired without a valid CDL in hand are required to obtain their CDL within 11 months of their hire date. You cannot operate commercial motor vehicles prior to receiving the necessary licensure and medical certification. Effective February 7, 2022, new Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations require entry-level drivers (drivers who are seeking to take the skills test in order to obtain a CDL for the first time, upgrade their CDL to a Class A from a Class B, or take the knowledge test to obtain a hazardous materials endorsement for the first time) to complete FMCSA- approved Entry-Level Driving (ELD) Training before the Department of Motor Vehicles can grant the requested CDL or endorsement. The course is comprised of 160 hours, on average, of training. VDOT is willing to assist with your enrollment in and payment for the course upon your acceptance of an ELD Training Tuition tenure and repayment agreement.

This position is designated as essential to emergency operations and may be required to work outside of normal work hours, on weekends and holidays during emergency situations which may include but are not limited to inclement weather, disaster response and emergency operations to ensure the safety of the traveling public.
