Francis Excavating is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Civil Excavation Estimator & Procurement Specialist to join our growing team. This position is a full-time, fully on-site role based out of our Texarkana office. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday, with occasional Saturday work required depending on project deadlines and bidding schedules.
The Civil Excavation Estimator will play a critical role in both securing and setting up our projects for financial success. This dual-focus role involves preparing accurate, competitive cost estimates for commercial, industrial, and institutional civil earthwork projects, as well as managing the procurement of all job materials. The ideal candidate will leverage vendor relationships to achieve competitive pricing, ensuring projects transition smoothly from bid to execution while strictly maintaining budget targets.
Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Civil Excavation Estimator to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in construction estimating, project management, material procurement, and cost control within civil construction and earthworks. This role involves preparing accurate project estimates, securing competitive material pricing, ordering all job materials, and collaborating with project teams to ensure successful, on-budget project execution.
Responsibilities
- Review project plans, specifications, geotechnical reports, and bid documents to develop comprehensive civil excavation estimates.
- Utilize AGTEK and Bluebeam to prepare detailed cost proposals and accurate digital take-offs.
- Build and analyze 3D models and GPS files using Topcon software for machine control and field layouts.
- Perform quantity take-offs for earthwork, grading, site utilities, and demolition.
- Procurement Management: Source and order all required job materials (pipes, aggregates, geotextiles, etc.) for awarded projects.
- Budget & Cost Control: Negotiate aggressively with suppliers and subcontractors to secure competitive pricing and protect project profit margins.
- Analyze labor, material, heavy equipment costs, hauling, and subcontractor quotations to formulate competitive bids.
- Collaborate closely with project managers and field superintendents to align material delivery schedules with project timelines and scopes.
- Assist in contract review and administration to mitigate risks and clarify scope of work.
Qualifications
- Experience: 5+ years of proven experience in construction estimating and material procurement with a specific focus on civil excavation, earthwork, or utility infrastructure.
- Software: Proficiency in AGTEK, Bluebeam, and Topcon (or similar GPS modeling software) is required.
- Proven track record in supplier negotiation, vendor management, and strict cost control within the heavy civil construction industry.
- Hands-on experience with construction site activities and understanding of excavation, trenching, and earthmoving management processes.
- Familiarity with contracts, material supply chains, project management principles, and OSHA safety standards relevant to civil excavation.
- Excellent analytical skills with attention to detail for both dirt-work quantity take-offs and material order tracking.
- Effective communication and negotiation skills for collaborating with clients, engineering firms, suppliers, and internal teams.
Schedule & Compensation
- Type: Full-time, On-site (Texarkana and jobsites within 100 mile radius)
- Schedule: Monday to Friday, with occasional Saturdays as needed.
- Salary: Starting at $85,000 per year (commensurate with experience).
- Bonuses: Potential bonus opportunities based on performance and project success.
