Join the VDOT Lynchburg District’s Communications section as a Communications Coordinator working part-time to assist the District Communications Manager and District Engineer with internal and external communications programs and deliverables for employees, local and state audiences, and media.

Job Duties

This is a part-time/wage position, limited to 1500 hours per cycle year with an average of 29 hours per week. No State/Medical benefits provided.

The Communications Coordinator - wage (part-time) core responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to media relations, communication materials, emergency response communication, statewide initiatives and support, and strategic communications program assistance.

The ideal candidate for the Communications Coordinator - wage (part time) position will have skill in news writing, use of computers, software and digital cameras, public speaking, and interviewing skills.

Minimum Qualifications

• Skill in writing organizational activities for multiple audiences using multiple formats and tools and experience in news writing and AP style or similar.  
  
  


• Knowledge of communications methods and theory as they relate to public relations and media relations.  
  
  


• Ability to positively represent the agency's programs to the media, citizens, elected and appointed officials. 
  
  


• Ability to use a content management system to maintain web site materials.  

Additional Considerations

• A combination of training, experience, or education in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or related field desired. 


• Experience applying administrative practices.
  
  


• Ability to prioritize work assignments and complete them timely, interpret policies and procedures, analyze workflow, and manage projects.
