This position will report to the Chatham Office.

The VDOT Lynchburg Construction Team is seeking an organized and computer savvy individual to monitor, coordinate and direct the administrative duties of roadway, structure, bridge construction and maintenance projects. Selected candidate will engage and review tasks and activities involving contractor conformance with plans, specifications, and contract documents to include daily inspection diaries, the input of data into automated software systems, monitor and track budget expenditures. Position responsibilities include preparing daily documentation and project activities from inspection notes, identifying issues that may cause project delays and communicating methods to avoid delays, monitoring documentation to ensure no payments are made for items not meeting full contractual obligation, and ensuring close-out documentation is completed. Position also maintains cost records on construction projects, performs data entry to maintain ledgers for primary and secondary system accounts, reviews and processes invoices and generates reports and correspondence for construction managers and engineers. It is imperative that the selected candidate communicates effectively with stakeholders, with VDOT support staff as well as external staff, in an effort to proactively resolve issues at the lowest level, projects a positive VDOT image, and keeps supervisor advised of important field observations. Additional positions may be filled from this recruitment within 90 days of the closing date.

In addition to a comprehensive compensation and benefits package, a $3,000 sign-on bonus is available for qualified candidates. Current VDOT employees are not eligible for the sign-on bonus.


Minimum Qualifications


Experience applying roadway, structure and bridge construction methods, materials, standards, construction symbols, and terminology. Experience reading, interpreting, and analyzing roadway, structure and bridge plans, as well as contract plans, specifications, and documents. Ability to maintain detailed records, prepare reports and maintain project files. Experience communicating effectively with VDOT and contractor staff and the general public. Ability to use computer software programs required for project management, spreadsheets, and financial management. Valid driver’s license required.


Additional Considerations


Knowledge of roadway, structure and bridge construction methods, materials, standards and terminology. Ability to apply mathematical formulas and engineering principles to determine minor adjustments to construction plans. Possession of current certifications and completion of fall protection and confined space training. Experience in highway and bridge construction inspection with a DOT or consultant inspection firm.
