Position Summary

The Senior Electrical & Controls Construction Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the execution, commissioning, startup, and quality assurance of electrical and control system projects within a heavy industrial power generation environment. This role provides field leadership for contractors, coordinates construction activities, ensures compliance with safety and environmental regulations, and supports engineering and project management teams throughout all phases of project delivery.

The successful candidate will drive project execution utilizing a Zero Incident Safety Philosophy while ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with all technical specifications, regulatory requirements, and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate electrical and controls construction activities for capital projects, outages, and maintenance initiatives within a combined-cycle power plant environment.
  • Provide field oversight of contractors and subcontractors to ensure compliance with project specifications, safety standards, environmental regulations, and work rules.
  • Review engineering drawings, construction packages, technical specifications, and project designs to identify constructability concerns and recommend improvements.
  • Support the preparation, review, bidding, evaluation, and award of electrical and controls construction contracts and field installation work packages.
  • Monitor contractor performance, productivity, and schedule adherence through field inspections, progress tracking, and regularly scheduled project meetings.
  • Review, evaluate, and approve contractor change notices, scope modifications, and field adjustments while maintaining project cost and schedule controls.
  • Ensure all work activities are executed in accordance with National Electrical Code (NEC), industry standards, company procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Develop and coordinate commissioning, startup, testing, and turnover plans with plant operations, maintenance, engineering, and contractor personnel.
  • Lead quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) efforts to ensure proper installation, testing, and operation of electrical and control systems while minimizing rework.
  • Identify critical path activities, construction risks, and schedule impacts, and implement corrective actions to maintain project milestones.
  • Coordinate outage planning, resource allocation, work sequencing, and project scheduling activities to support operational objectives.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, field reports, inspection records, contractor performance evaluations, and commissioning documentation.
  • Foster a culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement across all project activities.

Required Qualifications

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Formal training in Construction Management, Electrical Technology, Engineering Technology, or a related discipline preferred.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred.

Experience

  • 10-15 years of experience in heavy industrial construction, power generation, or construction management.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience supporting electrical and controls installation, commissioning, startup, and maintenance activities.
  • Demonstrated experience within combined-cycle power plants, utility generation facilities, refineries, petrochemical plants, or similar industrial environments.
  • Experience supervising contractors, managing field construction activities, and coordinating commissioning/startup efforts.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems, instrumentation, controls, commissioning, and startup processes.
  • Comprehensive understanding of National Electrical Code (NEC), construction standards, and industry best practices.
  • Experience developing contract scopes of work, reviewing contractor proposals, and administering construction contracts.
  • Proven ability to manage project schedules, budgets, quality control programs, and contractor performance.
  • Experience with outage planning, construction sequencing, resource coordination, and critical path scheduling.
  • Working knowledge of computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and project management software.
  • Strong leadership, team-building, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, electrical schematics, P&IDs, and technical specifications.
  • Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety, environmental stewardship, and operational excellence.
