Director of Construction

Position Summary

The Director of Construction is responsible for overseeing all residential construction operations, ensuring homes are delivered on time, within budget, and to company quality standards. This leadership role manages construction teams, trade partner relationships, scheduling, safety, quality control, and operational performance across multiple projects and communities.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with extensive production homebuilding experience, strong team development skills, and a proven track record of improving construction processes and customer satisfaction.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all field construction operations for multiple residential communities.
  • Manage and mentor Construction Managers and field personnel.
  • Establish and monitor construction schedules to meet company production goals.
  • Ensure homes are built according to plans, specifications, building codes, and quality standards.
  • Drive continuous improvement in construction processes, cycle times, and operational efficiency.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with trade partners, suppliers, and municipal agencies.
  • Monitor budgets, labor costs, and construction expenses.
  • Conduct regular field inspections and quality assurance reviews.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and company safety policies.
  • Collaborate with Purchasing, Land Development, Sales, Customer Service, and Executive Leadership teams.
  • Analyze performance metrics and implement corrective actions when needed.
  • Support strategic growth initiatives and expansion efforts throughout the region.


Qualifications

Required

  • 8+ years of residential construction experience.
  • 4+ years in a senior leadership role within homebuilding.
  • Experience with production homebuilding.
  • Experience managing multiple communities and construction teams simultaneously.
  • Strong knowledge of residential construction methods, building codes, and safety regulations.
  • Proven ability to lead, coach, and develop high-performing teams.
  • Strong budgeting, scheduling, and operational management skills.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency with construction management software and Microsoft Office.

Preferred

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or related field.
  • Knowledge of the Rio Grande Valley market and local trade network.
