Working Foreman Journeyman Electrician Job Description
The successful candidate will be responsible for safely leading teams of electricians on a job in order to complete projects on time and under budget; Understanding and instructing teams on the proper navigation, use, and installation methods outlined in the NEC; and motivating and successfully leading teams of electricians on a project, as well as helping to layout work for those groups to continually learn and advance in a productive environment. The candidate is also a working foreman.
Major duties and responsibilities
- Responsible for assembly, installation, maintenance and testing of electrical equipment and wiring systems in commercial, and large multi-family settings
- Prepares work area for installation of equipment for himself and his team
- Effectively manage each project by ensuring that all materials, tools, equipment and job information are on the jobsite ahead of time
- Effectively communicates, coordinates and collaborates with general contractor
- Installs or helps install electrical components
- Connects wiring and equipment as per code and job specifications
- Operates equipment only if trained and certified to operate
- Verify dimensions, alignments and clearances per drawings or plans
- Wear personal protective equipment at all times and ensure team wears PPE
- Creates and submits the following reports:
- Safety meeting sign-in (tool box talks)
- Two-week look ahead
- Sign-in sheets
- Progress reports
- Tracks job progression
- Delegating individual responsibilities and projects to crew members and contractors
- Providing adequate resources and staffing to meet project schedules, laws, regulations, best practices and safety needs
- Resolving conflicts or miscommunications quickly and amicably
- Regularly reporting project status to supervisors, site engineers and other officials
Minor duties and responsibilities
- Working journeyman, on tools, as required
- Serves as a primary or alternate member of the Operation and coordinates emergency and disaster response, recovery plans, as needed
- Identify electrical problems using a variety of testing devices
- Knowledge of electrical codes and ability to teach others
KEY COMPETENCIES and JOB QUALIFICATIONS
- A proven track record of delivering safe, profitable projects on schedule and within budget
- Excellent working knowledge of local Building Codes
- Must have knowledge of the NEC and OSHA safety standards
- OSHA 30 card carrying (or willing to complete course at hire, paid for by company)
- Strong, effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Punctual, motivated and detail oriented
- Includes crawling, standing, stooping, bending, crouching, kneeling, sitting, reaching, able to routinely lift heavy objects in excess of 50 pounds and pushing and pulling of objects is required
- Repetitive use of arms, hands and fingers
- Current Texas electrical journeyman license
- Current driver's license and acceptable motor vehicle record is a requirement
- Great attitude and team player
- Understands and follows guidelines related to workforce inclusion and respect
