The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) Bristol District is seeking an Engineer Project Manager to move us forward!

In this role, you will provide essential advice, guidance, and support across assigned projects, ensuring projects are developed effectively and meet all standards.

Key Responsibilities:

• Technical Advisory: Offer advice and guidance on your assigned projects, ensuring that all analyses, reports, and recommendations are meticulously prepared based on sound practices and principles.

• Support: Provide crucial support and consultation to facilitate smooth project development and bring resolution to address any technical challenges.

• Project Management: Oversee the planning, organizing, monitoring, and directing of work activities and resources necessary to complete projects on time and within budget.

• Communication: Liaise with internal VDOT staff, external customers, consultants, , and stakeholders to coordinate and discuss transportation projects and programs.

• Consistency and Compliance: Ensure projects align with established processes, schedules, budgets, design criteria, standards, and specifications, maintaining a focus on timeliness and budget adherence.


Minimum Qualifications


• Skill in contract management and change management.

• Skill in the use of computers and software applications.

• Project Management experience related to the project development process.

• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing to include presentation skills.

• Ability to investigate and resolve design issues.

• Knowledge of the principles and practices of transportation project management and project engineering.

• Knowledge of roadway design criteria, construction methods, standards, specifications and materials to include VDOT Road and Bridge Specifications and Standards.

• Ability to plan, coordinate and manage multiple projects and contracts.


Additional Considerations


• A combination of training, experience, or education in Civil Engineering or related field desired.

• Professional Engineering license or Engineer in training certification.

• Certification as Project Management Professional.

• Experience in roadway project management and design.
