Are you someone driven by innovation, with a passion for design? We are looking for professionals with construction Engineering interest, who can support the Virginia Department of Transportation in constructing new roadway designs to keep Virginia safe and moving!
VDOT’s Richmond District is looking for an engineer supervisor to perform full range of supervisory duties to include counseling, evaluating hiring, and training employees. Effectively manage assigned projects to ensure timely and accurate completion. Review plans prepared by staff and others to ensure correctness. Supervise professional engineering and technical staff in the performance of engineering duties. Communicate with internal VDOT staff, local government staff, consultants, citizens and FHWA regarding transportation projects and programs.
This position will advance VDOT’s construction and maintenance programs by analyzing preliminary plans and documentation of projects ensuring correctness of design and directing changes on projects for advertisement, meet published advertisement schedules, evaluate projects with economic considerations in mind, identify and develop required specifications and standards, and establish appropriate construction time limits. Supervise construction staff.

Minimum Qualifications
• Ability to read and comprehend plans
• Valid driver’s license
• Experience in standard construction methods and procedures
• Experience applying construction specifications and contract provisions
• Knowledge of procedures involving project management and design consultants
• Skill I the use of computers and web-based applications
• Ability to gather and analyze data and prepare clear and concise technical reports
• Demonstrated ability to perform mathematical calculations
Additional Considerations
• Extensive highway construction experience involving methods, cost estimation, and construction inspection work.
• Engineering experience in a construction related environment
• Certification in soils, aggregates, hydraulic cement concrete, asphalt concrete, construction safety, traffic signalizations, and value engineering.
