As a Senior Engineering Technician, you will use our foundational drivers to play a crucial role in shaping the highways that connect communities and drive progress across the Commonwealth of Virginia.

In today's cost estimate driven environment, VDOT Richmond District Location & Design is excited to announce they are seeking an hourly Senior Engineering Technician to serve as a cost estimation technician which will assist in unit price comparison analyses for estimates of VDOT and Locally Administered projects. The selected candidate will also assist in pre-scoping application validation efforts for various funding programs including, but not limited to SMART SCALE, State of Good Repair and Transportation Alternatives. You will coordinate the flow of information, both orally and in writing, to and from others that contribute to the overall project; communicate with VDOT staff as well as external staff to proactively resolve issues; and compile/maintain reports and project records.

THIS IS AN HOURLY/WAGE POISTIIONA ND IS NOT ENTITLED TO STATE BENEFITS PACKAGE AND IS LIMITED TO NO MORE THAN 1500 HOURS IN A 12-MONTH PERIOD.


Minimum Qualifications


• Knowledge of standard drafting methods, procedures, and roadway engineering design principles
• Ability to read, interpret technical plans/specifications and analyze roadway plans
• Ability to make mathematical and algebraic computations and to measure, calculate and reconcile pay quantities
• Skill in the use of computers to include Microsoft Office
• Skill in the use of drafting tools, equipment, and engineering software
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions
• Valid driver’s license


Additional Considerations


• A combination of training, experience, or education in Civil Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Technologies, or related field desired
• Experience in civil engineering, roadway design and technical drafting
• Ability to maintain detailed records, create/analyze reports and maintain project files
• Experience with bid tabulation generating software
• Skill in the use of project/construction management, and data analysis software
• Experience in roadway construction and/or inspecting roadway construction projects
• Cost estimation experience desired
