Job Description

Bristol Environmental Solutions, LLC is seeking a qualified Environmental Technician to join our team.  The Environmental Technician will supervise subcontractors, perform field logistics, and collect multi-media samples in accordance with planning documents. Knowledgeable in the use of field instruments and GPS. Work includes travel and field activities nationwide. Responsibilities include subcontractor oversight, quality control, site safety and health, performing site investigations/assessments, site characterizations, and remediation work.


Major Responsibilities



  • Supervise Subcontractors - including drillers, geophysical surveyors, excavation service providers, laboratories, land surveyors, etc.; direct the installation and development of monitoring and remediation wells.

  • Perform Field Logistics - Coordinate with subcontractors; perform utility locates, mobilize and demobilize to/from the work site (work includes travel and field activities); and sample shipping.

  • Identifying potential subcontractors and obtaining cost estimates for field projects.

  • Perform Field Sampling Activities - Identifying equipment needed for field activities; field screening and collecting environmental samples including soil, groundwater, air, sediment and surface water samples for field screening and laboratory analysis; site reconnaissance, slug testing, gauging and product removal; performing work in accordance with local and federal laws, and in a safe manner.

  • Coordinate with team members, subcontractors, and stakeholders.

  • Document Field Activities - Record field data, compile and complete field notes; organize and file data (electronically).

  • Perform basic calculations and computer data entry.


Minimum Education/Experience


High School Diploma or equivalent. Minimum of three years recent experience with environmental activities. HAZWOPER and DOT/IATA Hazmat certifications required.


Required Knowledge or Skills



  • Directs field activities, subcontractors, and site logistics.

  • Conduct multi-media sampling collection, knowledge and use of field instruments and familiarity with GPS.

  • Commit to field schedules ranging from 1 day to 6 weeks in a variety of weather conditions.

  • Ability to prioritize and organize, work well under stress, meet deadlines.

  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to constant change.

  • Strong interpersonal skills to assist and communicate with staff.

  • Ability to perform tasks in a safe and responsible manner.

  • Ability to operate portable field equipment including, but not limited to, well pumps, vacuum equipment, and generators.

  • Working knowledge of environmental regulations.

  • Familiarity with incremental sampling.

  • Knowledge of environmental regulations.

  • Familiarity with drilling technologies and the Unified Soil Classification System.

  • Ability to work flexible hours, as required to meet deadlines.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including, Word, Excel, and Outlook.

  • Ability to produce clear and concise field documentation.


Preferred Knowledge or Skills


Associates Degree in Environmental Science, or related field.  Ability to operate material handling equipment (e.g. skid-steer, tele-handlers or forklifts).  Experience working for and on Department of Defense installations.  HAZWOPER, OSHA 30 and/or CQM-C.


Physical Demands



  • Medium physical workload.

  • Employee must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.

  • Required to have close visual acuity to perform activities such as viewing a computer terminal and extensive reading. Also required to have visual acuity to operate motor vehicles or heavy equipment.

  • Specific physical requirements include, but are not limited to, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, walking, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing and performing repetitive motions.

  • The worker is subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions, noise sufficient to cause the worker to shout. The worker is subject to a variety of physical conditions – proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electric current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals.

  • The worker is subject to atmospheric conditions – fumes, odors, dusts, mist, gases or poor ventilation.
