We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Electrical Estimator to join our team in Minneapolis. This role is responsible for preparing comprehensive, accurate, and timely cost estimates for commercial, industrial, and institutional electrical construction projects. The ideal candidate will possess deep industry knowledge, a strong analytical mindset, and a proven track record of managing competitive bids from initial review through final submission.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review, interpret, and analyze project plans, specifications, and RFP documents (specifically Division 16 / Section 26000).
- Perform detailed material take-offs and labor factoring for complex electrical systems.
- Utilize McCormick Estimating Software to compile bids, manage vendor pricing, maintain databases, and project material lead times.
- Collaborate closely with executive leadership, project managers, general contractors, and vendors to ensure competitive, airtight bids.
- Identify potential project risks, value engineering opportunities, and constructability issues early in the estimation process.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Minimum of five (5) years of electrical estimating experience in commercial or industrial electrical construction.
- Advanced proficiency with McCormick Estimating Software; experience with digital takeoff software is highly preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, and electrical drawings, specifications, blueprints, and schematics.
- Thorough knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC), electrical systems, construction methods, and industry terminology.
- Ability to prepare accurate electrical construction cost estimates, budgets, and project schedules.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, database management, scheduling software, and other construction-related software applications.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with the ability to effectively plan, prioritize, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment and build positive working relationships.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently while requiring minimal supervision.
- Ability to work reliably from our Twin Cities office and support projects throughout the region.
Experience Requirements:
This position requires a BS in construction management, electrical engineering, or other education/experience by which an understanding of electrical systems has been gained and a minimum of eight years of experience in electrical construction. Ability to use a computer based estimating software is also required. Knowledge of McCormick is a plus.
