This position is primarily an estimating role, responsible for preparing accurate budgets, proposals, and project scopes that help projects move efficiently from concept to construction. In addition, this individual will spend a portion of their time meeting with prospective clients, discussing project goals, and helping guide projects through the proposal process.

For the right candidate, there is an opportunity to gradually take on additional client-facing and sales responsibilities as the role evolves.

Compensation

• Competitive salary based on experience and qualifications.

Responsibilities

Estimating & Pre-construction (Primary Role - Approximately 75-80%)

• Reviewing plans, drawings, site photos, and project notes
• Performing quantity takeoffs for labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and disposal
• Preparing detailed estimates, budgets, and proposals
• Communicating with vendors and subcontractors to obtain current pricing
• Coordinating with ownership, project managers, designers, and foremen to confirm project scope
• Assisting with site visits, measurements, and field verification as needed
• Maintaining organized estimate files, pricing sheets, and project notes
• Helping improve estimating systems, templates, and production rates

Client Consultation & Sales (Secondary Role - Approximately 20-25%)

• Meet with prospective clients to discuss project goals and budgets.
• Conduct occasional site consultations and gather project information.
• Present proposals and answer client questions regarding project scope and pricing.
• Follow up on estimates and proposals to help move projects toward contract.
• Build and maintain positive relationships with clients throughout the preconstruction process.
• Participate in business development efforts and help identify opportunities for company growth.
• Using AI tools to improve estimating efficiency, organization, communication, and workflow.

Qualifications

• 2 years experience in construction estimating, landscape construction, general construction, or a related trade
• Ability to read plans, construction details, and measurements
• Strong math, organization, and communication skills
• Ability to price labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and disposal accurately
• Comfortable using Quickbooks, spreadsheets, email, estimating software, and basic office programs
• Strong attention to detail
• Ability to manage multiple estimates and deadlines
• Experience working with vendors, subcontractors, crews, and project managers
• Valid driver's license and ability to visit job sites when needed
• Familiar and comfortable using AI tools to improve estimating efficiency, organization, communication, and workflow. Experience with tools such as Claude is preferred.

Preferred Experience

• Bachelor's degree or technical institute degree in construction or related field Landscape construction estimating experience
• Knowledge of landscape construction scopes such as pavers, concrete, drainage, irrigation, retaining walls, planting, lighting, grading, and demolition
• Knowledge of Bay Area construction pricing and suppliers
• Experience with residential design-build projects
• Familiarity with irrigation, drainage, grading, masonry, concrete, pavers, planting, and lighting
