Position Overview

Rafter J Industries is a growing civil construction/mining company with a project pipeline valued at over $170 million that is currently seeking a Mining Estimator to join our mining division.  As an Estimator, you will prepare, review and present discipline estimates for specific project proposal activities. In this role, you will provide estimating assistance and guidance for and develop conceptual estimates and performs cost analysis on a variety of different contract models.

Responsibilities

• Develop complete detailed estimates for large, complex jobs in mining 
• Review owner plans and specifications to develop a comprehensive understanding of the project; develop plan for the actual construction to serve as basis for the estimate.
• Review of project specifications and drawings to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate
• Perform quality take-offs when applicable, if not available possess the ability to complete the picture in developing a full detailed estimate
• Review all bid and contract documents and home office legal department opinions.  
• Collaborate with other internal Estimators, Project Managers, and Executive Team when required
• Present and reconcile estimates with design team and clients
• Conduct site investigation prior to forming a plan of operations to identify any problems or conditions of an unusual nature that may be present.  
• Utilize engineering techniques and procedures to conduct investigation and adhere to standard company policy and procedures.
• Stay abreast of trends and developments, such as new equipment, methods and procedures that are developing in the industry. 
• Prepare special engineering studies or reports required by certain bid items or conditions.  
• Consult with internal stakeholders on various problems discovered during bid preparation, design, rates, schedules, etc. 
• Must be able to complete contract deadlines. This could require extended hours including nights/weekends to ensure the deadline is met. 
• Attend project meetings and site visits when required

Qualifications

• 3+ years' of related mining estimating experience preferred 
• Extensive knowledge and demonstrated experience with complex projects is a plus
• Exceptionally strong attention to detail, communication, interpersonal and leadership skills 
• Demonstrated proficiency in Estimating software & Microsoft Office products (e.g. Excel, Work, Outlook, PowerPoint)
• Must have a valid driver's license and be willing to travel
