Job Duties


The Virginia Department of Transportation’s (VDOT) is excited to offer and announce a competitive opportunity to serve as a Reproduction Services Specialist in our Central Office Administrative Services Division! The selected candidate will be able to produce professional and high-quality documents by operating high tech printing and computer networking equipment. The base location for this position will be in downtown Richmond, Virginia.

The selected candidate will be responsible for:



  • Manage Print Requests - responsible for managing and executing print jobs, maintaining printing equipment, and providing technical support for print operations. Deliver high-quality print outputs. Diagnose and troubleshoot issues, configure printers and equipment as needed, and keep track of inventory and maintenance schedules.



  • Operating Scanning Equipment - Scan hard copy documents and, or submit electronic files, black and white color, into system. Structure jobs using multiple enhancement features resulting in high tech print documents. Set job priority, paper stocks, quantity, finishing, and production machine at setup. Ensure all work setup is upheld per customer requirements and within the established time frame and priority.



  • Operate Printers - Set needed stocks to appropriate paper trays for print jobs submitted. Review all setups made and make changes if necessary. Save print jobs to a saved queue to recall directly at printer for future printing needs.


  • Maintain Equipment - Conduct weekly cleaning of equipment used: (all surfaces, monitor screens and scanner glass).




Required skills



  • Knowledge of electronic document formatting for reports, brochures, newsletters, and bids.



  • Knowledge of order in which materials must be sequenced, and the result of sequence on finished product.



  • Ability to adapt to constant change in priorities, and client demand.



  • Knowledge of paper weights, utilization of a wide array of document enhancement features and their effects, true and printer fonts, and telephone techniques.



  • Skill in the use of computers and software applications to include Windows Operating System, Microsoft Office Suite, and Adobe.



  • Skill in the operation and maintenance of network printing devices including XEROX Versant 280, Fiery, HR Pagewide XL, cutting machines, and related equipment.



  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

Minimum Qualifications



  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with customers.


  • Knowledge of order in which materials must be sequenced, and the result of sequence on finished product.


  • Skill in watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure the machine is working properly.


  • Knowledge of digital printing and photocopy techniques and equipment.


  • Knowledge of paper weights, utilization of a wide array of document enhancement features and their effects, true and printer fonts, and telephone techniques.


  • Ability to independently resolve daily printing issues.


  • Skill in the use of computers and software applications to include Windows Operating System, Microsoft Office Suite, and Adobe.


Additional Considerations



  • Secure Fiery Cutsheet Professional Certification within one year of hire.

  • Experience working in a document reproduction center or similar environment.


  • Prior work experience or training in XEROX Versant 280, Fiery, HR Pagewide XL, cutting machines, and related equipment.


  • A combination of training, experience, or education in Xerox Equipment or related field desired.
