SUMMARY


Mortenson's Minneapolis Operating Group is currently seeking a passionate Senior Safety Engineer I to implement Mortenson’s Zero Injury Safety program across multiple project sites throughout the Midwest. The Safety Engineer will ensure a safe work environment for team members, subcontractors and visitors to the construction work site. This individual will be required to travel/relocate to various project sites for the duration of projects.


Responsibilities:


Implement and administer safety program at each worksite for team members



  • Assist project management team in developing site specific safety program and activities

  • Formulate, coordinate and conduct safety orientation and training programs

  • Document and track all safety violations, unsafe conditions, etc.

  • Conduct safety work area audits

  • Conduct project’s loss control data/document collection and trend analyses

  • Assist with major incident analysis

  • Record, monitor, and analyze Safety, Injury and Hazard statistics

  • Lead OSHA reporting and posting requirements

  • Monitor and review subcontractor activities for safety concerns

  • Review Safety Submittals and attend preconstruction and preparatory meetings with subcontractors

  • Lead Return to Work and Modified duty assignments


Provide resource of safety related information



  • Evaluate and offer solutions for industrial hygiene concerns

  • Maintain operational knowledge of construction safety, OSHA, ANSI, and other applicable standards and procedures

  • Serve as resource for safety issues or concerns for all project team members/management

  • Attend and/or chair safety meetings


Other duties as assigned



  • Work with client safety personnel, union representatives, insurance risk engineers, etc.

  • Accompany safety, health, insurance and OSHA personnel on work-site tours

  • Ensure maintenance and inspection of safety equipment and protective wear


Effectively work and build relationships with those of diverse backgrounds and organizational levels

  • Ability to work in Microsoft Office and pertinent safety related software programs

  • Shown positive and professional attitude, and strong customer service skills

  • Ability to interpret and communicate Mortenson policies

  • Active listening skills and effective communication including an openness to diverse input and feedback

  • Ability to travel 


Education and experience:



  • Bachelor’s degree in field of safety, occupational health or equivalent

  • Minimum of four years of construction safety experience

  • If no Bachelor’s degree, high school diploma, CHST Certification, OSHA 500 and minimum of 10 years of continuous construction experience leading crews and planning work, to include at least six years as a dedicated construction safety professional responsible for managing project safety programs, conducting / reviewing hazard analyses and developing controls, conducting safety training, and planning work activities or equivalent experience in a relevant field

  • Current valid driver’s license

  • Travel 100% of the time is required
