Job Duties


Are you looking for an opportunity to implement processes and procedures to keep the state of Virginia safe? We are searching for individuals driven by safety to support state traffic operations.

VDOT’s Richmond District is seeking an individual to support the mission of the State Sign Shop through the fabrication of custom and standard signs highway signs, process inventory documents; and to provide excellent customer service. Required to utilize graphic programs to produce highway signs, vinyl cutting plotters and other fabrication equipment to make high quality signs from raw material to finished product. You will also perform fabrication of mass-produced signs utilizing automatic squeeze roller, photo positives/silk screens and screening equipment. Perform warehouse functions with routine inventory counts and checks; shipping, packaging and checking incoming and outgoing sign orders; housekeeping activities and equipment and machine preventative maintenance.

Minimum Qualifications


• Skill in the use of computers for graphic designs and related plotters
• Knowledge of inventory procedures
• Valid driver’s license
• Ability to obtain forklift certification within 90 days of hire
• Knowledge of storage, handling techniques and safety regulations
• Safety shoed required
• Ability to perform mathematical calculations to determine sign layout and sizes.
• Ability to perform physically demanding labor
• Ability to work within tight production schedules and set performance standards
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.


Additional Considerations


• Experience working with standard computer applications,
• experience in inventory procedures.
• Experience in sign fabrication or silk screening
• Forklift certification
• A combination of training, experience or education in computer technology, or related field desired.
• Experience using computer assisted design and computerized graphics software desired.
