Monday – Friday 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM Monday – Friday 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Saturday 7:30 AM – 1:00 PM Saturday As Needed
The Site Supervisor position will:
Be responsible for all aspects of our sand and gravel operation and manage and train all employees.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Maintain a safe and safety-conscious workplace
- Actively engage with the workforce to reinforce safe work behaviors, leading by example
- Confirm that the Company’s equipment and processes are being inspected and documented each shift to maintain compliance with M.S.H.A. guidelines, all in accordance with the Company’s policies
- Pursue a culture of safety with an objective of zero injuries or accidents
- Perform and document toolbox talks and employee audits to be coordinated with safety guidelines
- Ensure employees as well as contractors and visitors on site are obeying safety rules. Complete and document site-specific training.
- Take immediate action when there is non-compliance with Company and M.S.H.A. safety policies.
- Get President’s approval on all purchases over $20,000
- Maintaining good Public Relations
- Complete all other duties as assigned
Maintain a strong focus on customer and community satisfaction (Our Company’s Image)
- Communicating effectively with the Company’s customers, and coordinating with the President all communications with the community
- Make sure all entrances and drives are maintained, cleaned and secured
- Ensure berms, fences, property line buildings and scales are being properly maintained
- Ensure that security and access control at our sites are strictly monitored, and that gates and buildings are locked and secured when not on site, and that facility lighting is operating properly.
- Value environmental stewardship. Assure environmental compliance by maintaining our required monthly spill plan inspections, as well as our dust suppression equipment (water meter logs, where applicable)
- Ensure haul roads are watered and plant equipment dust suppressant systems are functioning
- Ensure best practices are used in the production process to ensure quality products are produced
- Ensure best practices are used when stockpiling, whether using conventional stackers or stockpiles built with loaders, to ensure products remain within target specifications
- Ensure operators of loaders are using best practices when loading customers
- Ensure compliance with all noise control requirements
- Maintain inventory of useable parts for efficient production
Maintain, analyze and monitor production
- Ensure that all plant equipment and mobile equipment are properly maintained and efficiently used for full production potential.
- Supervise the production team to ensure that daily production and quality targets are met while maintaining safety objectives and production expense targets
- Effectively work with the maintenance personnel to maximize plant up-time and manage costs
- Schedule, manage and monitor the daily activities of the hourly production and loading personnel
- Monitor belt scales to ensure facilities are operating at full production
- Communicating effectively with the Company’s personnel and the President
- Monthly inventories
- Confirm employee timesheets are accurate
- Communicate any accidents/near accidents to the President after/while emergency procedures are being followed.
- Cross train all Legacy Materials positions and be able to train new employees
- Reports:
- Daily production and site
- Monthly quantity summary
- Quarterly profit and loss updates
- Create and maintain the most efficient site plan for operations
Minimum Education and Experience
- At least minimum 4-year experience managing an aggregate company
- At least minimum 4-year experience operating mobile heavy equipment required
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Must be willing to maintain current driver license that meets state requirements and must be insurable
- CDL is desirable but not required
- Must possess an Iowa DOT Certified Aggregate Technician and Sampling Certification and have at least 4 years of experience
- Must be willing to work all production and maintenance hours to include days, evening, nights, and weekends
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Must be able to read and comprehend equipment operating manuals
- Must be able to operate heavy and complex equipment requiring skill [safety and efficiently]under a variety of working conditions and exercise independent judgement
- Must have knowledge of trenching and shoring standards
- Must be able to read, write, and do basic mathematical calculations in order to keep time and material records, and read blueprints or other project documents
- Must be able to wear all required safety equipment
- Must be able to perform duties in a safe manner
- Must be able to read and interpret gauges
Physical Requirements
- Must have good hand/eye coordination and be able to operate hand/foot controls
- Possess good vision to perceive depth at close range and distances up to 150 feet
- Must be able to climb on and off equipment to operate and service
- Must be able to bend, stoop, climb and reach around mobile equipment
- Capable of lifting 75+ lbs with or without assistance
- Must be able to sit and operate equipment for long periods up to 10+ hours per day
- Must work outside in all weather conditions consistent with extreme ambient temperatures: heat, cold, wetness, dryness, dust, and noisy conditions
- Must be able to work at various heights
Working Conditions
- Work is performed in an environment with undesirable conditions: exposure to extreme heat and cold, odors, noise, dust, fumes, moving parts, electrical shock, burns, toxic agents
- Larger equipment is typically air conditioned. Outside assignments will require periods of work in all weather conditions-heat, cold, wet or dry. May have exposure to dust, sand, gravel, diesel, exhaust, noise, etc. Standard and specialized PPE will be provided however, it is your responsibility to provide cold weather gear.
- Occupational hazards such as those generally associated with ongoing exposure to moving machinery/equipment leading to cuts, bruises, burns, strains, back injuries and potentially more serious injuries
- A drug test and pre-employment physical is required. Subject to random alcohol and drug testing while employed
