Position Summary

The Senior Construction Estimator prepares accurate, competitive cost estimates for commercial, industrial, civil, and concrete construction projects. This role supports the full estimating process, from bid invitation through proposal submission, and partners closely with operations, project management, subcontractors, vendors, and clients to support successful project pursuits and profitable delivery.

The successful candidate will bring substantial construction estimating experience, strong analytical skills, sound judgment, and the ability to manage multiple estimates while supporting and mentoring members of the estimating team.

Estimating and Bid Preparation

Prepare conceptual, schematic, design development, and final construction estimates.

Review drawings, specifications, geotechnical reports, contracts, and other project documents to confirm scope, requirements, and potential risks.

Perform complete quantity takeoffs using company-approved estimating software.

Solicit, review, and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotes for accuracy, completeness, and competitiveness.

Develop labor, equipment, material, subcontractor, and production cost estimates.

Prepare bid proposals, pricing strategies, clarifications, assumptions, exclusions, and qualifications.

Risk Review and Coordination

Identify project risks, constructability concerns, value engineering opportunities, and cost-saving alternatives.

Coordinate with operations, project managers, superintendents, leadership, subcontractors, suppliers, and vendors throughout the bidding process.

Attend pre-bid meetings, site visits, and client presentations, as required.

Assist with contract negotiations, as assigned.

Project Handoff and Continuous Improvement

Support project handoff meetings to promote a smooth transition from estimating to operations.

Maintain estimating databases, track historical cost data, monitor bid results, and evaluate estimating performance to support continuous improvement.

Leadership and Team Support

Provide guidance, training, and support to junior estimators and estimating assistants.

Prepare estimates in accordance with company standards, client requirements, and established deadlines.

Quality Assurance

Ensure work meets project specifications, contract requirements, and established quality standards.

Recommend and implement improvements that strengthen quality, productivity, and consistency.

Monitor customer satisfaction and help resolve client concerns promptly and professionally.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required.

10+ years of commercial construction estimating experience.

Experience estimating projects ranging from $100,000 to more than $10 million.

Strong knowledge of commercial construction, heavy civil construction, site development, concrete construction, structural concrete and utilities.

Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, contracts and civil plans.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Engineering, or a similar field; equivalent experience may be considered.

Work Environment / Physical Requirements

Work is performed in both office and construction site environments.

Site visits may require walking on uneven terrain, standing for extended periods, climbing stairs or ladders, and exposure to typical construction site conditions.

Must be able to review drawings, specifications, estimates, and other project documents for extended periods.

Must be able to use a computer, estimating software, phone, and standard office equipment.

Personal protective equipment may be required when visiting active construction sites.
