As a Traffic Construction Specialist, you will use our foundational drivers to play a crucial role in shaping the highways that connect communities and drive progress across the Commonwealth of Virginia.

In this position, you will:
*Support the Traffic Operations program during all phases of construction and installation of traffic control devices.
*Coordinate, monitor, inspect, and provide oversight and direction to contract inspectors ensuring construction quality with contract plans and specifications.
*Participate in system and component level installation and acceptance testing for new systems, software, or ITS devices to ensure contract requirements are met.
*Interpret plans and contract requirements, inspect work in progress, resolve construction problems, and address complaints.
*Prepare and maintain project correspondence and reports. Review work orders, estimates, claims, etc.
*Prepare, review, and monitor progress reports, work schedules, records of work performed, daily inspection reports, and project diaries.
*Monitor materials received, tested, and used. Prepare vouchers. Review and submit final documentation for completed projects.
*Provide technical assistance for construction and maintenance project issues. Serve as liaison between the field and VDOT project managers.
*Investigate and resolve complaints from stakeholders.


Minimum Qualifications


•Ability to scope out multiple project assignments, set goals and priorities, and develop schedules.
•Ability to read, analyze, and interpret plans, contract specifications, and contract documentation.
•Valid driver's license.
•Knowledge of civil rights requirements, VDOT and OSHA safety regulations, and environmental regulations.
•Skill in the use of computers and applicable programs for preparing project documentation.
•Experience related to electrical systems, inspection and testing practices, and materials testing and acceptance procedures for routine and complex projects.
•Ability to accomplish results through formal and informal channels.
•Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with internal and external customers.
•Experience applying traffic engineering principles related to highway construction, maintenance, and operations with emphasis on traffic control devices such as signals, etc.
•Knowledge of mathematics, common formulas, trigonometry, algebra and geometry necessary to accomplish inspection work.


Additional Considerations


•Knowledge of VDOT specifications, contracts, and standards as they relate to construction management processes.
•Experience in traffic engineering related to highway and signal construction and inspection.

Therefore, advertised rates of pay may or may not align with the Commonwealth pay bands. Telework eligibility will be following the Commonwealth’s Teleworking policy.
