WSP is searching for an entry-level Hydrogeologist for our Tampa, Florida office.  This is an early career position with responsibilities including supervision of remedial contractors (engineers) and drilling (hydrogeologists), collection of environmental media samples, and associated reporting.  The candidate will perform engineering design, hydrologic and hydraulic analyses, and other environmental work in support of private and public clients in Florida and other states. The candidate must demonstrate a high degree of initiative, technical competence and flexibility. This position is an opportunity to work on complex water resources or water/wastewater/reclaimed water projects under the direction of a talented team of professionals.
Hydrogeologist Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develop thorough knowledge of standard field sampling procedures for various environmental media (soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, and air)
  • Document and record field data and observations in a clear and organized manner, and prepare logs and other forms from the field notes
  • Become knowledgeable of intrusive drilling and sampling techniques used in unconsolidated deposits and bedrock
  • Direct and oversee the installation of groundwater monitoring wells, perform field data collection for groundwater sampling, and environmental site assessments
  • Assist in the field performance of aquifer tests and analysis of test data using standard solution methods
  • Supervise and direct various contractors while conducting environmental site investigation and remediation work
  • Implement environmental sampling plans (supervise subcontractors, sampling, testing)
  • Use industry specific software to perform hydrologic, hydraulic and groundwater modeling
  • Coordinate field activities and schedules with property/facility owner/operators in a clear, professional manner
  • Assist in the analysis, evaluation and interpretation of hydrologic, hydrogeologic and chemical data obtained during field investigations (boring logs, data tables, geologic cross sections)
  • Prepare site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs), and demonstrate the ability to implement safe work practices in the field in accordance with the HASP and other applicable regulations
  • Assist project managers in subcontractor selection, contracting and coordination during field investigation activities
  • Assist in preparing project plans and technical reports of investigation and remediation activities and provide analysis and interpretations of findings
  • Gain working knowledge and understanding of federal and state regulations applicable to environmental site investigation and remediation projects


<div>Hydrogeologist Job Requirements:</div> <ul> <li>Bachelor of Science in Geology or Earth Sciences</li> <li>OSHA 40 Hour HAZWOPER training</li> <li>Ability and willingness to work overtime (as needed) in both office and field, including overnight travel.  Flexibility to travel via land and air to locations in the United States and work on periodic extended field assignments.</li> <li>Valid US driver’s license</li> <li>Strong written and verbal communication skills with clients, management, regulatory authorities, and contractors</li> <li>Ability to work as a team member with people of differing backgrounds and experience</li> <li>Authorization to immediately work in the United States</li> <li>Ability to analyze and solve problems independently, work under pressure, and meet deadlines</li> <li>Computer use and applications skills required, including MS Word, MS Excel, and Adobe Acrobat</li> <li>Work in a team environment</li> <li>Authorization to immediately work in the United States</li> <li>Work in a team environment</li> </ul> <div> </div> <div>Hydrogeologist Preferred Qualifications:</div> <ul> <li>Master of Science degree in Geology or Earth Sciences or other related Environmental discipline</li> <li>Fundamentals of Geology (FG) or currently qualified for the next FG exam is desirable</li> <li>DOT Training on hazardous material transportation, CPR and First Aid training, or other environmental training</li> <li>1 to 4 years environmental consulting experience</li> <li>Experience conducting phase I environmental site assessments following ASTM International Standard E 1527-13 is preferred</li> <li>Experience collecting samples of soil, groundwater, or other environmental substances</li> <li>Knowledge of methodology and associated software for analysis of slug tests, aquifer pumping tests, and related hydrogeologic investigations</li> <li>Coursework to obtain ASBOG professional licensing certifications once enough work experience is obtained (preferred)</li> </ul> <div> </div> <div>About WSP USA</div> <div> </div> <div>WSP USA is the U.S. operating company of one of the world's leading engineering and professional services firms.
