*D.R. Horton, Inc.*is currently looking for an *_Associate Region Counsel for our Northern Gulf Coast area_*. The right candidate under the direction of the Region Counsel will, provide support, assistance and advice on all regions legal matters, with an emphasis on land acquisition. Review and revise contracts, safety programs, and resolve subcontractor disputes.


*Essential Duties and Responsibilities*include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
* Provide legal advice related to land acquisition, development, and disposition, including drafting contracts and related documents, working with division personnel, handling closings, consulting with and coordinating outside counsel as necessary
* Review and revise homebuyer contract documents
* Provide advice regarding RESPA issues and other issues
* Review and revise subcontractor contract documents and handle disputes
* Review safety programs, review and revise manual and written policies, and handle safety issues including OSHA
* Provide advice regarding legal issues in construction and warranty
* Coordinate outside counsel as necessary
* Review marketing contracts and programs and drafting documentation as necessary
* Provide advice regarding various region matters
* Conduct all business in a professional and ethical manner to serve customers and increase the goodwill and profit of the company
*Supervisory Responsibilities*
May directly supervise 1 or more employees in the Legal Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.


*Education and/or Experience*
* Must possess a Jurist Doctoral degree (J.D.) and be a licensed attorney
* Must be licensed to practice in Alabama, or if licenses in another state, must be able to obtain admission to practice or authorization to practice as in-house counsel in Alabama within one year of hire.
* Substantial or progressive legal experience practicing law and supervising legal professionals for approximately 5 to 15 years, with heavy emphasis on complex real esate transactions (including the drafting, review and negotiation of purchase and sale agreements, financing/security documents, and title and survey review). (Strong candidates with less than 5 years experience will be considered.
* A team player who has the ability to interact with people at all levels of the company, and independently handle the miscellanous issues that arise in a public homebuilding business.
* Must reside in or be willing to relocate to Baldwin County, Alabama area.
* Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written oral form or via DRH applications
* Proficiency with MS Office and email.

*Preferred Qualifications*
* Strong academics. Law review preferred
* Major law firm experience
* Significant eperience representing homebuilders or similar real estate developers
* Experience handling real estate transactions in some or all of the following areas: Florida, Alabama, Mississippi
* In-House counsel experience
* Willingness to travel (Approximtely once per quarter)
