POSITION SUMMARY
The Site Safety Manager will work under the general supervision of the Corporate Safety Director who will define work objectives, assign tasks, and provide guidance and support. The Site Safety Manager will provide appropriate direction, oversight, and management of the safety, health, and environmental site-specific safety programs in compliance with OSHA, owners, clients, and all other federal, state, and local regulations.
The Site Safety Manager is expected to work closely with and assist Site Project Managers and Supervisors to ensure all safety policies and procedures are established and adhered to at all time. The highest level of professionalism is expected for setting the standard for all others to follow in accomplishing Brad Cole Construction Company’s goal of Zero Accidents and Injuries.
A significant role is played by the Site Safety Manager in ensuring timely and efficient communications within his Project Team; accurate and timely reporting and communications with the Corporate staff; and maintenance of cordial and timely communications to meet the expectations of customers.
Work is reviewed by the Corporate Safety Director for achievement of objectives.
Employee’s Duties will include but not be limited to:
RESPONSIBILITIES & GENERAL JOB DUTIES
- Review, advise, and recommend additions or changes to the Site-Specific Safety Program in accordance with OSHA regulations, Company policies and client requirements.
- Act as safety liaison between the Client, General Contractors, Subcontractors, Government Agencies, and Brad Cole Construction.
- Develop Activity Hazard Analysis (AHA) as needed for the project and assist any subcontractors with meeting this requirement.
- Advise Corporate Safety Director of any needed changes to the Site Specific Safety Plan (SSSP).
- Train Project Managers and Field Supervisors on their role in implementation and execution of the Corporate Safety Program and the Site Specific Safety Plan.
- Monitor the implementation of the Site Specific Safety Plan, all safety protocols and policies, risk management strategies, and on-site project requirements.
- Providing written and verbal translation of meeting and documents from English to Spanish for work crews and Managers.
- Conduct Job Site Safety Audits to identify weaknesses and risks.
- Train Field Supervisors and Operators on OSHA/MSHA regulations.
- Assist Project Managers and Site Supervisors with weekly safety briefs and daily Job Safety Analyses (JSAs).
- Assist in interpretations and enforcement of any safety related manuals, hazards, or violations.
- Administer site safety orientation to new hires and subcontractors.
- Order safety supplies as needed or requested and approved by jobsite personnel, PM’s, Superintendent and/or Corporate Safety Director.
- Identify and coordinate environmental issues on project sites.
- Train workforce on identification and protection of endangered species.
- Ensure that proper fueling operations and procedures are used.
- Direct any fuel or other pollutant spill mitigations.
- Administer prescribed random drug testing program for the project.
- Transport personnel to doctor for work related injuries.
- Maintain appropriate labor law posters for jobsites.
- Conduct weekly observations and equipment inspections.
COMMUNICATIONS AND COORDINATION
- Complete timely and accurate reports on projects in accordance with corporate policies.
- Ensure effective communications within the Brad Cole Construction Team, clients, engineers, etc.
- Facilitate resolution of any problems and conflicts both within the Brad Cole Construction Team and with customers.
- Communicate with customer on project’s progress to ensure all customer goals are met.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES
- Notification of all workplace incidents in the first 30 minutes by phone to the Director of Corporate Safety; including initial details of the incident.
- Investigate and file first report of any work-related first aid, injury, illness, near-misses, and damage to vehicles, equipment or property and forward to the Corporate Safety office within 24 hours of occurrence.
- Complete timely and accurate project safety reports in accordance with corporate policies.
- Create, monitor and maintain worker’s safety and training files and forward to the Corporate Safety office in a timely manner
- Create, monitor and maintain job file correspondence to include receiving weekly safety meetings from each jobsite in a timely manner
- Create and maintain spreadsheets documenting approved drivers and employee training certifications including equipment operator’s certification.
- Ensure effective communications within the Brad Cole Construction Team, clients, engineers, etc. on all safety matters.
- Facilitate resolution of any safety related problems and conflicts both within the Brad Cole Construction Team and with customers.
- Communicate with customer on safety issues to ensure all customer goals and expectations are met.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND CONDITIONS
- This position requires working in the internal and external environment.
- The duties of this position are typically performed in an external and physically taxing environment involving lifting, pulling, and climbing. The duties include, walking across rough terrain, climbing ladders and work within confined spaces and trenches.
- Communication typically occurs through face-to-face interaction, as well as via e-mail, telephone and written correspondence. This job also requires the ability to use other office equipment such as copier, fax machine, etc.
- Occasionally travel to meetings throughout the office and at other company office sites and client locations.
- Constantly work in a team environment, effectively and efficiently achieving goals, improving processes and resolving problems.
- This position requires a flexible work schedule; night and/or weekends may be required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Ability to initiate and complete task across many areas, and be able to communicate progress and completion of task.
- Organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Communication, verbal and written.
- Judgment is also an important skill to have, not only for handling situations but also for making decisions across many departments.
- Staff development is a part of a Safety Managers role, so you need to be able to inspire energy and creativity.
PHYSICAL / MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
- Requires considerable concentration and focus. It is subject to stress caused by a changing environment, diversity in the organization, tight deadlines and workload.
