As a Vice President, Field Operations (Build to Rent) working for Taylor Morrison the focus of this job is on achieving results which are aligned with the larger picture of the organization and its strategic goals. Initiative, coupled with a sense of competitive drive, and the ability to stay focused on results despite changing conditions, is the key to achieving the performance objectives of this job. You will be in charge of the local Build to Rent Field Operations and the associated impact on P&L dollar and timing. Because environmental and organizational conditions change rapidly, the work involves innovation and creativity in generating ideas for quick response. Decision-making is focused on implementing practical, timely solutions. The job requires getting things done quickly and handling a variety of activities. Self-assurance, and the confidence to purposely drive toward results while constantly problem-solving and engaging the commitment of others is essential. A leadership style that is firm and goal oriented, and yet inspires, trains, and engages others in an enthusiastic and genuine way is important. The emphasis on building rapport and relationships with individuals and groups requires an outgoing, poised, and persuasive communication style. Because the pace of the work is faster than average, the ability to learn quickly and thoroughly while continually recognizing and adapting to changing conditions is critical. The scope of the job may require effective delegation to proven people.

Job Details

We trust that as a Vice President, Field Operations (Build to Rent) you will: (responsibilities)

  • Learn and execute the Build to Rent playbook strategy

  • Provide leadership, establish strategic direction, and drive field operations to exceed division objectives

  • Responsible for overall division execution with an emphasis on Land and Vertical Construction activities.

  • Maximize division financial performance through establishing the business plan, achieving forecasts, and ensuring delivery of a high-quality product

  • Strategically plan to ensure division has sufficient land supply to meet goals

  • Responsible for local division disciplines including administration, land acquisition, entitlements, development and vertical construction

  • Hire and lead functional managers who are technically competent, ethical, and supportive of the overall corporation and able to manage effectively

  • Develop forecasts and headcount needs in conjunction with Build to Rent Corporate to achieve financial and operational goals

  • Ensure phased completions of homes occurs on time and in conjunction with renter move-ins

  • Coordinate with the centralized Corporate departments that provide support to local divisions in the areas of Architecture, Purchasing, Marketing, Communications, Strategic Research, Finance, Accounting, Property Management, Customer Service and Asset Sales

  • Nurture a working environment which encourages employee loyalty, longevity, and satisfaction

  • Work collaboratively with other BTR employees, for-sale division peers and Corporate team members as needed

  • Be a respected, high integrity role model for the local and professional communities as the Taylor Morrison Build to Rent representative

  • Communicate effectively at all levels through verbal and written means

  • Collaborate with land team to identify future investment opportunities

About you:

Bachelors degree in Construction, Business or other related Home Building field and 10+ years of experience

Eight years direct experience with a production home builder or multi-family developer

Two years experience with income statement responsibility related to field construction activities

Experience in at least two functional areas in home building is strongly preferred (i.e. construction and land)

Computer literacy is preferred

Demonstrated success in the home building industry

FLSA Status: Exempt

Will have responsibilities such as:

  • Interviewing, selecting, and training employees

  • Setting rates of pay and hours of work

  • Appraising productivity; handling employee grievances or complaints, or disciplining employees

  • Determining work techniques

  • Planning the work

  • Apportioning work among employees

  • Determining the types of equipment to be used in performing work, or materials needed

  • Planning budgets for work

  • Monitoring work for legal or regulatory compliance

  • Providing for safety and security of the workplace
