WSP is currently initiating a search for a Design-Build Design Manager for our Seattle, WA office.
 
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Lead Alternative Delivery design teams, delivering commercially-based design solutions and managing the various deliverables for the constructor
  • Drive innovative solutions during the proposal, planning, design, permitting, bid and delivery phases
  • Effectively scope and package the work, plus manage and control the design process from preliminary solutions through the production of as-built documentation across the lifecycle of the design process
  • Deliver large transportation Alternative Delivery projects in a profitable manner
  • Ensure quality deliverables throughout the project lifecycle
  • Undertake regular coordination/design reviews with the client, design, and commercial teams; and actively manage change
  • Assist and mentor the professional development of future Alternative Delivery design managers
  • Ensure consistency of the design of the various portions of the projects with respect to adherence to the design criteria, multiple interfaces, required standards and the approval process
  • Proactively drive safety and ensure that health, safety, environment and security requirements are properly considered and included in all stages of the design process
  • Proactively drive the Risk Management
  • Manage the responses to design RFIs (Request for Information)
  • Carry out periodic and end of phase/project reviews and audits with the constructors and design teams to ensure that lessons learned are captured, shared and used to inform/improve future project delivery
  • Adjere to WSP's Code of Conduct and rlated policies and procedures

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:
  • 15+ years of experience, including 10 years managing design, and at least 5 years of direct Alternative Delivery experience in a management capacity
  • Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent four-year engineering degree
  • WA Professional Engineering license (or ability to obtain within 6 months)
  • Ability to demonstrate a strong track record of winning and delivering design-build projects, exceeding expectations relative to budget, quality and schedule requirements
  • Recent experience of delivering winning bids profitably and timely
  • Proven track record of delivering Alternative Delivery projects ranging from $50 million to $250 million plus project value
  • Strong technically-based leadership skills with proficient understanding of multi-engineering disciplines and technical design standards
  • Strong project management skills
  • Broad knowledge of construction, design and management of major highway/bridge or transit projects
  • Understanding of environmental requirements of horizontal infrastructure construction
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with ability to form effective relationships
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree(s)
  • Experience with delivering WSDOT Alternative Delivery projects
  • 10 years of recent experience in managing the design of complex highway projects
  • Knowledge of the Washington transportation market, design firms and constructors
