WSP is currently initiating a search for a Design Control Coordinator to be based at our Sacramento, CA program office.  
 
The Design Control Coordinator serves under the general direction of the Deputy Chief, Rail Delivery. This position will be responsible for support related tasks in the Rail and Operations Delivery Branch associated with the California High-Speed Rail (CHSR) Project, including Track and Systems, Rolling Stock, and the Project and Construction Management contracts. These tasks will include support for planning, preliminary design, final design, procurement, and construction phases of the Project, as well as supporting other functional branches, as needed. The Design Control Coordinator will coordinate these activities, attend meetings, ensure that the project is following the California High-Speed Rail Authority’s design criteria and coordinates Requests for Information (RFI), Design Variance Requests (DVR) and other technical design submittals and reviews with staff and construction management. The Design Control Coordinator works in the Rail and Operations Delivery Branch of the California High-Speed Rail Authority's Office of Program Delivery.
 
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provides input and support for the construction package final design and construction support team. Performs programmatic due diligence review of technical submittals.
  • Participate in over-the-shoulder meetings, design meetings, issues resolution meetings, and other design coordination meetings.
  • Coordinate between all staff and performs document management related to technical design submittals such as design milestone submittals, RFIs, and DVRs.
  • Assist in the development of the Rail Operations and Delivery Branch’s processes, procedures, and plans.
  • Provide guidance and leadership to high-speed rail systems and track engineering team members.
  • Demontrate knowledge of engineering and construction management, particularly related to rail construction related design and related structures.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree in engineering, construction management, or other closely related curriculum.
  • Ten (10) years of relevant professional work experience.
  • Strong project and construction management background.
  • Proficiency and knowledge of computer software applications such as Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word and Visio.
  • Working relationships with management, consultants, private sector contractors, subcontractors and suppliers, and their associations.
  • Excellent communication and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to interact successfully in a team environment.
  • The ability to maintain good communication skills and working relationships with management, other divisions, districts, federal and state agencies, local agencies and private sector contractors, subcontractors and suppliers and their associations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across rail & transit disciplines (Systems Engineering, Signals, Electrification Systems, Data Communications, and Project Controls), Project Managers, Systems Engineers, Signals Engineers, Analysts, and Coordinators.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with planning, environmental, engineering, and construction terminology.
  • Knowledge of engineering and construction management, particularly related to rail construction related design and related structures.
  • Knowledge of Caltrans, AREMA, AASHTO LRFD with Caltrans Amendments, FRA, and local and federal standards.
  • Knowledge/experience of the US railroad industry and/or international railroad systems.
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply engineering judgment in areas of design and construction engineering on transportation projects.
