WSP is currently initiating a search for a Director, Structural Engineer for our Pittsburgh, PA office.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • The ideal candidate will have broad-based, hands-on experience in structural and transportationengineering including the ability to manage and execute tasks as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Assignments may include: Planning, Analysis, Design and Rehabilitation of Highway Bridges, Transit and Transportation Facilities for all phases of a project from conceptual design through final design; Analysis Design and Retrofit of Retaining Walls; Construction Staging Analysis; Evaluation of Existing Structures and Load Ratings; Bridge Inspection management; Plan Development, Preparation of Specifications, Review of Construction Phase Submittals and Shop Drawings, Preparation of Technical Reports, and Participation in Field Work including Construction and Structural Integrity Inspection.
  • Experience with structural steel design, reinforced concrete design and prestressed concrete design is required
  • Experience with Project Management; Mentoring; Client Interaction and Preparation of Proposals including Cost Proposals.
  • Ability to lead and manage others in producing high quality technical and professional deliverables on projects and proposals
  • Must be able to serve as a senior structural task lead and be capable of leading a design team in the preparation of plans and reports for the various design phase submissions
  • Develops key contacts with clients and other internal and external stakeholders

Minimum Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college/university in Civil Engineering with a focus in structural engineering
  • 12+ years demonstrated experience in structural design is required 
  • Pennsylvania PE registration
  • Familiarity with Pennsylvania standards and procedures is required
  • Previous experience leading Pennsylvania Transportation Infrastructure projects and interacting with clients
  • Ability to efficiently use structural analysis software is required
  • This position requires the ability to work independently with minimum supervision as a senior lead engineer on major projects 
  • This position requires the ability to serve as Project Manager on major projects
  • Successful candidate will mentor and guide junior engineers during the planning and design process
  • Successful candidates will have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Actively leads in societies, conferences, and industry committees
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree
  • Experience with project scheduling software
