Job Duties

VDOTâs Fredericksburg Preliminary Engineering has an exciting career opportunity for a Roadway Design Engineer. Successful candidate will be responsible for designing and producing plans for a wide range of transportation projects using OpenRoads Designer, MicroStation and other computer design software. This position will be working under the supervision of a Responsible Charge Engineer for Roadway Design. Additional positions may be filled from the same applicant pool within 90 days of the closing date.

Minimum Qualifications

⢠Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with diverse audiences.
⢠Experience in roadway design criteria, construction methods, standards, specifications and materials.
⢠Experience applying civil engineering principles as they relate to roadway design and standard design technical knowledge.
⢠Experience applying design standards, specifications, policies and procedures.
⢠Skill in building networks and relationships with employees, field personnel, contractors, manufacturers and FHWA representatives.
⢠Ability to plan and schedule work.
⢠Skill in the use of computers and software applications to include engineering and design software.
⢠Skill in delivering exemplary customer service
⢠Knowledge of principles of roadway safety that impact roadway standards and special designs.

Additional Considerations

⢠Experience in roadway design and project management for transportation projects.
⢠Engineering in Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE) license.
⢠BS in Civil Engineering or related field.
