The Big Picture:

Responsible for providing management, leadership, direction, and support of Mortenson's environmental program for multiple projects sites and ensure environmental compliance of construction activities.

Mortenson is currently seeking an Environmental Manager. In this position, you will support Solar efforts at Mortenson for the Company. You will review environmental documentation and advise on environmental matters. Strong communication skills are necessary as you will interact with staff at all levels in an ever-changing environment. Your ability to work well in a team and collaborate is vital to your success in this role. This position is remote and will travel to our solar sites 50% plus.

What will you be doing?

Provide environmental oversight, leadership, and direction in the management of Mortenson's environmental program across multiple project sites and Operating Groups.

*Serve as the environmental expert for identifying highly complex environmental risks that impact the organization, provide recommendations to investigate and recommending solutions to be utilized on multiple projects
*Collaborate with the Operating Group leadership and projects team to identify, evaluate and mitigate environmental risks.
*Work with regulatory agencies and customers to advise in the development and execution environmental plans and activities.
*Evaluate, negotiate and provide recommendations for environmental resources
*Prepare or review and comment on environmental submittals
*Review and negotiate trade partner work plans and activities for environmental concerns
*Develop and promulgate policies and procedures to ensure compliance with all environmental regulations
*Provide guidelines for the development of environmental training programs
*Develop best management practices for environmental management utilized on multiple project sites
*Provide solutions for adjustments needed for the implementation of environmental mitigation measures
*Conduct work site regulatory support visits for multiple projects
*Analyze environmental data for leading and lagging indicators of performance and implements identified adjustments with Operating Group leadership
*Analyse environmental violations, non-compliance conditions, etc. and work with Customer or regulatory agency as needed
*Lead environmental incident analysis and response
*Ensure company collaborate with customer on regulatory (Federal, State, Provincial and local) reporting and documentation requirements

Provide resource of environmental related information

*Identify, evaluate, and provide solutions for environmental risks for the Operating Groups
*Provide knowledge and understanding of developing concerns of environmental issues in construction and other applicable standards, regulations, laws, and procedures
*Demonstrate ability to independently research environmental issues or concerns and provide summary communications to all levels team members
*Lead environmental meetings and identify topics for continuous improvement
*Work with environmental industry community leaders through trade groups and participation in professional organizations

Other responsibilities as assigned

*Work with customer's environmental personnel, environmental consultants, regulatory representatives, insurance representatives, etc.
*Represent Mortenson in discussions regarding environmental management and collaborate with environmental risk management solutions
*Accompany environmental, health and safety, insurance and regulatory personnel on work site tours
*Assist the project team with environmental cost estimates and ongoing adjustments of the environmental budget allocated for the project

Effectively work and build relationships with those of diverse backgrounds and organizational levels

Lead team members by example, offer effective coaching and feedback, and effectively manage performance

How will you succeed?

*Minimum of 12 years related experience

*Significant experience with storm water pollution prevention plans (SWPPP)
*Experience with wetlands, erosion prevention, and endangered species
*Deep understanding of Federal, State, Provincial, and local laws, policies, and procedures

*Detail orientation sufficient to organize and manage Operating Group environmental performance
*Ability to work in Microsoft Office and pertinent environmental related software programs
*Ability to explain and promulgate environmental concepts, practices, and procedures
*Ability to provide independent analysis of environmental regulations' effect on project considerations to Operating Group leadership
*Positive and professional attitude, and the highest order of customer service skills
*Ability to interpret and communicate Mortenson policies to team members and outside parties
*Strong teamwork orientation, initiative, communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills
*Effective public speaking and presentation skills
*Proven track record of including diverse team members when assigning challenging and high-profile tasks
*Active listening skills and effective communication including an openness to diverse input and feedback
*Ability to travel 50% plus
*Current driver's license

Education:

*Bachelor's degree or higher in geology, environmental management, environmental science, biology, or related field
