The Estimator prepares or assists in the preparation of estimates supporting the Construction Management, General Contracting or Property Management services offered by the Company.  When requested, the Estimator may also perform project management tasks.  This is a full-time in-office position.

Duties and Responsibilities

Bid and Negotiated Project Estimates

• Set up estimates within the Company’s software applications utilizing Company templates and complete Accounting department forms;
• Develop bid strategy on how best to develop the most competitive estimate;
• Create subcontractor and vendor bid lists;
• Create and issue Invitation to Bid or invitation to submit pricing proposal;
• Develop scope of the work within each section of work;
• Issue and manage the Requests for Information process;
• Complete quantity take-offs;
• Price labor and materials to be furnished and/or installed by Petra;
• Evaluate subcontractor and vendor bids or proposals, and prepare final draft estimate;
• Review draft estimate with supervisor and/or Project Management to determine final bid and/or estimate presentation strategy;
• If requested, participate in subcontractor and vendor scope reviews, or in the presentation of a bid and/or estimate to the client;

Purchasing

• If requested, purchase materials and/or equipment and buy-out subcontracts.

Awarded Projects

• In accordance with Company procedures, provide a detailed and informed hand-off of the project to Project Management.

Subcontractor and Material and Equipment Vendor Development

• Cultivate and build relationships with subcontractors and material and equipment vendors;
• Participate, as required, in their qualification process.

Production Cost Analysis

• Utilizing current CSI division classifications, enter data to produce an updated Production Cost Analysis of items of work performed by Company field personnel.

Management of Others

• Supervise and mentor less-experienced Estimating staff;
• Delegate and oversee tasks performed by administrative support staff.

Meetings

• Attend project walk-throughs as required;

• Attend and participate in periodic project management meetings as estimating schedule allows;
• Attend and participate in weekly department meetings.

Training

• Participate in training as required, requested or self-identified.

Requirements

• At least 10 years' of construction industry experience including experience in/exposure to the estimating function;
• Bachelor's degree, preferably in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, Mathematics or Construction Science, or equivalent industry experience;
• Knowledge of construction delivery methods, construction means and methods, and cost estimating;
• Advanced software capabilities and skills including proficiency with MS Excel, Outlook, Word, and industry-specific software.

CT residence required; no relocation assistance available.
