WSP, a world-class multi-disciplinary engineering consulting firm, is seeking an experienced Senior Fire Protection Engineer for our Houston, TX office. We work closely with architects and owners from around the world on large, complex projects with a focus on sustainability and energy performance of the built environment especially the health care sector.

Our engineers work on high quality, high-profile, national and international projects. The Senior Fire Protection Engineer will be an integral member of our national Fire Protection/Life Safety specialty practice and will be responsible for the development of fire protection engineering solutions for projects as well as client development.
The responsibilities of the Senior Fire Protection Engineer will include:
  • Interpretation of building code, life safety, and fire code requirements. This will include familiarity with both ICC and NFPA codes, including IBC and NFPA 101.
  • Negotiating with authorities having jurisdiction on fire safety designs and proposals.
  • Producing with limited guidance fire safety strategy documents to inform and support the chosen building form throughout the design process.
  • Design of fire protection/life safety systems including automatic fire sprinkler systems, fire detection and alarm systems, smoke management systems, and egress systems.
  • With minimal support, carrying out and reviewing fire engineering calculations including smoke modelling and evacuation analysis from simple hand calculations to complex 3D computational modelling.
  • Assist in the commissioning of fire protection/life safety systems in commercial, institutional and industrial facilities.
  • Directly interfacing with the client.
  • Organizing in-house resources.
  • Following quality control review processes of all project documentation.
  • Developing project proposals and budgets.
  • Conducting financial management of all projects.
  • Mentoring junior staff.
  • Preparing technical reports/specifications.
  • Participating in department initiatives.
  • Contributing to the overall business development of the company.
  • Review of architectural drawings for compliance with building and fire code requirements

Supervisory experience is highly desirable.</li> <li>At least 5 years of health care consulting and design experience.  This would include extensive knowledge of Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS) requirements related to Life Safety Code compliance.</li> <li>P.E.
