WSP has one of the top geotechnical and tunnel engineering groups in the nation.  WSP Geotechnical and Tunneling Technical Excellence Center has a May 2020 opening for a Field Engineering Geologist / Geotechnical Engineer to provide geotechnical services to its clients on major transportation, underground and water resources projects in Michigan.
 
WSP is currently initiating a search for a Field Engineering Geologist / Geotechnical Engineer for our Detroit, MI office, with initial assignments on a major P3 tunnel construction project.
 
 
Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Daily interaction with contractor foreman and supervisors.
  • Read and interpret project plans and specifications, monitor and document contractor activities for compliance with project documents.
  • Measure, calculate, and document geologic conditions and quantities of installed materials in accordance with client policies and procedures.
  • Provide general inspection on construction labor and subcontractor work to assure a good and workmanlike operation.
  • Monitor quality control and quality assurance field testing for concrete, steel, soil, rock and other materials, as applicable.
  • Prepare inspector daily reports in accordance with project requirements.
  • Perform other field inspection duties, as assigned.

Requirements

<div>Minimum Qualifications:</div> <ul> <li>Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field of study (e.g. Engineering Geology, Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, etc.).</li> <li>A demonstrated ability to read and understand contract documents.</li> <li>A working knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and materials.</li> <li>Effective oral and written communication skills.</li> <li>Valid, current Michigan driver's license.</li> </ul> <div> </div> <div>Preferred Qualifications:</div> <ul> <li>Master’s degree in a relevant field of study (e.g. Engineering Geology, Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, etc.)</li> <li>Working knowledge of the heavy civil, underground and/or tunnel construction industry.</li> <li>Working knowledge or experience related to geotechnical investigations.</li> <li>Construction or design experience in large scale underground construction projects.</li> <li>Prior working experience in the utility construction industry.</li> </ul> <div> </div> <div>About WSP USA</div> <div> </div> <div>WSP USA is the U.S. operating company of one of the world's leading engineering and professional services firms.
