CBRE is seeking a Hotels Analyst in our Downtown Toronto office to support the CBRE Hotels team within the Valuation & Advisory Services (VAS) department. The candidate will be expected to conduct research for use by Directors in appraisal and advisory projects, assist with maintenance and internal operations of our databases, and may be required to provide administrative support if necessary. 


This position requires a self-motivated individual with experience in various levels of data collection, market research, and data analysis, as well as strong written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Excel is required, and programming skills would be an asset.

 

The ideal candidate will possess a post-secondary degree from a recognized hospitality and/or tourism program, and strong writing and research skills. Preference will be given to those that have taken an active interest in the hospitality profession, or have accommodation operations or tourism-related work experience. Potential candidates must also possess a valid Ontario drivers license.


 


ESSENTIAL SKILLS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


Assist with maintenance and internal operation of CBRE Hotels and CBRE Tourism & Leisure Group database systems.


Conduct extensive research and project support tasks, using both internal database and third-party sources, with respect to relevant hospitality and tourism market analysis trends, and incorporate research findings into written valuation and advisory reports.


Prepare data-driven reports and articles for publication, with analytical guidance of a Director on the CBRE Hotels and/or CBRE Tourism & Leisure Group team.


Update Economic Overviews for use of the VAS team using Conference Board of Canada data, along with other relevant market research data upon request.


Complete other research and administrative requests, at the direction of senior management.


Requirements

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

Undergraduate degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with a recognized hospitality and/or tourism program is preferred but not required. Consideration will also be given to applicants with experience in the hospitality industry, accommodation operations or tourism-related work experience.


COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong organizational and analytical skills. Ability to provide efficient, timely, reliable and courteous service to clients. Ability to effectively present information.


FINANCIAL KNOWLEDGE

Requires average knowledge of financial terms and principles relative to the hospitality industry. Conducts basic financial analysis. Ability to understand and analyze hotel financial statements. Basic understanding of hotel operation fundamentals. Will work towards developing the ability to prepare reasonable and defensible forecasts of income and expenses.


REASONING ABILITY

Ability to understand and carry out general instructions in standard situations. Ability to solve problems in standard situations. Requires intermediate analytical and quantitative skills. Strong interest in learning to analyze economic, lodging, and area trends to arrive at supportable supply and demand forecasts.


OTHER SKILLS and/or ABILITIES

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft office including MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with MS Access would be an asset.
  • Basic programing skills would be an asset.
  • Valid class 5 drivers license with a reliable mode of transportation
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and organize work to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work as part of a team to meet individual and office objective
  • High work ethic with attention to detail and demonstrated problem-solving skills
