Job Duties

The Staunton District Structure and Bridge section is seeking an Inspector to assist with in-depth visual and mechanical inspections of bridges and highway structures to discover deterioration, damage, and defects that would affect the life, serviceability and safety of the structure.

Minimum Qualifications

⢠Knowledge of common bridge types and components.
⢠Valid driver's license.
⢠Skill in the use of computers and software applications.
⢠Ability to diagnose causes of damage and deterioration to bridges and structures.
⢠Ability to prepare and, or draft structural drawings and sketches.
⢠Ability to use specialized inspection instruments and tools.
⢠Ability to follow safety practices and procedures and use required equipment.
⢠Ability to read and interpret bridge and structure plans and specifications.
⢠Ability to prepare reports, enter data, update and maintain files.
⢠Knowledge of and skill in the application of engineering math.
⢠High school diploma or GED preferred; equivalent experience or training may substitute for
education.
⢠Experience in bridge maintenance and repair or experience in structural inspection.
⢠Experience using a PC to prepare reports, enter data, and maintain databases and files.

Preferred Qualifications:

⢠Completion of an FHWA-approved course in safety inspection of in-service bridges.
⢠Associate's degree or coursework in engineering or engineering technology.
⢠Proficiency in MS Office.
⢠Experience in bridge maintenance and repair or structural inspection.
