WSP is currently initiating a search for a Lead Civil/Environmental Engineer for our Morristown, New Jersey or Elmsford, New York offices.  This is a mid-career position with responsibilities including support for sediment remediation programs from proposal and site investigations through design and construction for both private and public sector clients.
 
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Preparing project plans and technical reports related to sediment investigation and remediation activities
  • Establishing scopes, budgets and schedules
  • Planning the work and providing technical direction to junior staff
  • Completing engineering analysis
  • Implement environmental sampling plans (supervise subcontractors, sampling, testing)
  • Document and record data and observations in a clear and organized manner
  • Maintain positive team relationships;
  • Assist and coordinate with key staff across disciplines, as required

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in civil/environmental engineering or related engineering degree
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required (NY/NJ PE preferred)
  • 8+ years civil/environmental consulting predominantly focused in sediment investigation, remediation and dredging experience including:
  • Remedial Investigations and Feasibility Studies for remediation and alternative assessments
  • Field investigations and construction monitoring
  • Overseeing subcontractors
  • Familiarity with a range of dredging and dredged materials management approaches including beneficial use of dredged materials
  • Routine engineering analysis using approved procedures appropriate for the discipline.
  • Understanding of the scientific and engineering principles of contaminant fate and transport including familiarity with sediment transport modelling
  • Chemical isolation cap modeling and design
  • Evaluation of innovative sediment capping/in situ technologies
  • Remedy Selection and Detailed Design including the development of specifications and design drawings
 
Specific experience in dredging engineering and design should include the following:
 
  • Bathymetric surveys assessment
  • Deposition/erosion rates evaluation
  • Sediment removal volume estimation
  • Dredging production evaluation including effective working time, downtime, cycle times, etc.
  • Dredge prism design
  • Dredging/sediment removal technologies evaluation
  • Dredging near sensitive structural features
  • Dredged material management options including material handling, dewatering, treatment, transport and disposal
  • Dredged material characterization including development and implementation of field sampling plans and evaluation of analytical results
  • BMPs and monitoring requirements
  • Permitting support
  • Cost estimate and sensitivity analyses
  • Detailed design including the development of specifications and design drawings
  • Ability to work overtime (as needed) in both office and field, including overnight travel.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Strong technical writing, analytical and communication skills
  • Detail-oriented with an emphasis on quality work products
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures 
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master of Science degree in civil/environmental engineering or related engineering degree
  • OSHA 40 Hour HAZWOPER training, DOT training, CPR and First Aid training
  • Hands-on experience with design software such as Autocad
