Lead Consultant, Enclosures:
You will work with a team of enclosures experts within the façade practice. The practice offers consultancy services to developers, architects, portfolio managers, and end users regarding the planning, design, materials, procurement, construction and maintenance of building enclosures.  By combining building technology with the application of building science and creative design, the Enclosures group provides a holistic approach to façade engineering. Building enclosures provide a degree of environmental separation, as well as addresses energy efficiency, day lighting, indoor air quality, and fire safety. Enclosures design considers factors including thermal comfort, incoming noise such as traffic, as well as  limiting  the transmission of noise between floors and rooms.  An integrated design approach is used by the project team to  create economically viable solutions that ensure the desired image, constructability, durability, comfort, safety and energy-efficiency, as well as future maintenance, repair and renewal.
Job Duties and Responsibilities

As a Lead Consultant, Enclosures, you will be responsible for overseeing the enclosures aspects of a project. 
  • Participate and/or lead in design meetings with owners, developers, architects, product manufactures, and other consultants
  • Perform construction observations, administration and evaluation of contractor performance
  • Prepares and/or reviews construction related drawings, technical specifications, reports and other construction documents related to the Building Envelope for new and existing construction projects 
  • Provide key technical design input parameters for the development of design and construction documentation
  • Build firms reputation in the market, and maintain client base and relationships
  • Participate in building asset evaluation and management project, including property condition assessment, reserve studies, pre purchase surveys and asset management for Building Enclosures
  • Observe and perform field functional performance testing and construction mock up design and consulting for Building Enclosure systems. Observe and review laboratory testing and processes     
  • Prepare information for proposal documents, specifications, and reporting.
  • Participate in forensic investigations and field reviews to determine design and repair options, building investigation reports and other construction documents related to building investigations
  • Coordinates and manages project teams and small- to mid-size projects
  • May contribute to ensuring staffing needs are met and key employees are retained and engaged
  • Provides leadership in technical and professional activities on projects
  • Competence in analytical techniques in solving complex technical problems
  • Ability to interact well with others as well as develop and contribute to high quality technical and professional deliverables on projects and proposals
  • Attend team and/or project meetings and interface with internal specialty groups
  • Initiate marketing activities, participate in marketing presentations, and new project efforts
  • Participate in development of deliverables for projects with team
  • Seeks out opportunities to mentor junior staff
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
  • Other duties as required by business needs


  • 7-10 years of experience in LEED, high performance buildings, building science analytics, or building science modeling
  • Possess a four-year degree (in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Building Science, or Construction Management or other construction related discipline or equivalent combination of education and related work experience in enclosures or facade design
  • May have post Graduate Education (Graduate Level Courses, Masters, PhD)
  • Possess in – depth knowledge of building materials and construction processes for design, construction, and or repair of building envelopes, waterproofing, cladding systems, roofs, parking structures, and other related construction
  • Ability to work efficiently in a team environment
  • Proven success managing and contributing to Building Enclosure related projects involving commercial and residential buildings.
  • Personal commitment to green issues/sustainability
  • Interest in innovative design, specifically in sustainable and renewable energies, and high performing buildings
  • Excellent verbal communication and writing skills
  • Attention to detail and highly organized
  • Self-starter, able to work independently as well as multi-task
  • Revit or AutoCAD experience
  • WUFI, THERM or energy modeling software  experience
Working Conditions and/or Physical Demands
Occasional travel (<30%) to client or project sites as needed. Must be able to work in a variety of environmental conditions, such as remote or isolated areas, working alone, and in inclement weather (within safe and reasonable limits).
