You will work with a team of enclosures experts within the façade practice. The practice offers consultancy services to developers, architects, portfolio managers, and end users regarding the planning, design, materials, procurement, construction and maintenance of building enclosures.  By combining building technology with the application of building science and creative design, the Enclosures group provides a holistic approach to façade engineering. Building enclosures provide a degree of environmental separation, as well as addresses energy efficiency, day lighting, indoor air quality, and fire safety. Enclosures design considers factors including thermal comfort, incoming noise such as traffic, as well as  limiting  the transmission of noise between floors and rooms.  An integrated design approach is used by the project team to  create economically viable solutions that ensure the desired image, constructability, durability, comfort, safety and energy-efficiency, as well as future maintenance, repair and renewal.
 
 Lead Consultant – Building Enclosures – New York, NY
 
WSP, an award‑winning and innovative multidisciplinary engineering consulting firm, has an opening for an Associate with our Building Enclosures group in the New York area, especially one with Local Law 11 experience as a Qualified Exterior Wall Inspector. WSP works closely with architects and owners from around the world on large, complex projects with a focus on sustainability and energy performance of the built environment.
 
Work will include Local Law 11 condition assessment and repair design of roofing and vertical building enclosures, building enclosure design consulting, including design and design review, specifications, design detailing, forensic investigation, and building enclosure commissioning.  Candidate will be expected to manage teams of multiple staff on multiple projects at the same time, offer technical guidance, coordinate the appropriate technical leads for the project and be the primary point of contact for the client.
 
The candidate will manage and guide project teams in completing Local Law 11 work, building enclosure design reviews, providing building enclosure consulting, review roofing systems and waterproofing as a technical reviewer and completing on site forensic investigations and functional performance testing of enclosure systems.  They will also be required to perform much of this work.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in Building Enclosures / Construction minimum.
  • 5 + years as a Qualified Exterior Wall Inspector (QEWI) performing Local Law 11 work in New York City.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Architecture.  Masters preferred.
  • Experience in quality control and management is required. 
  • Extensive knowledge in all manners of building construction is required, especially roofing, and a wide range of masonry, stone, terra cotta and fenestration.
  • Maintains strong relationships with clients and external professional and industry groups.
  • Extensive and successful business development experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Working Conditions and/or Physical Demands
Occasional travel (<30%) to client or project sites as needed. Must be able to work in a variety of environmental conditions, such as remote or isolated areas, working alone, and in inclement weather (within safe and reasonable limits).
