WSP is currently initiating a search for a Lead Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Engineer to provide innovative solutions for our clients from our Detroit, MI or Lansing, MI offices.  This is an excellent opportunity for those seeking to influence industry-leading projects both in Michigan and around the country.  If you are interested in planning and designing for a future with connected infrastructure and automated vehicles, Smart Cities, ATM strategies, and other leading edge technologies, please contact us. 
You will be a key influencer for developing and implementing strategies to grow our ITS practice in Michigan. In addition to the current contracts underway in Michigan, you will also have access to our national and international expertise and the support from our local offices leaders. You will be responsible for supporting our local clients through the delivery of quality projects and be a key contributor to supporting business relationships.
The successful candidate should have experience working in groups and have a desire to participate in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary environment, as the traffic and ITS engineering group in Michigan works closely with the planning and civil design groups. The candidate should have initiative and a strong desire for learning and sharing knowledge.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Serve as project manager or task lead for ITS engineering projects
  • Work on a variety of ITS, traffic engineering, or other technology related projects as a technical expert
  • In addition to project work, focus on business development, marketing, and project pursuits that will help to strengthen our presence in  Michigan
  • Oversee project delivery and quality assurance/quality control on ITS engineering projects/tasks
  • Monitors project progress for technical accuracy and adherence to schedule and budget
  • Mentor staff in their technical and professional development
  • Participate in the development and maintenance of client relationships in Michigan
  • Participate in community, civic and client related events, including professional societies

Minimum Qualifications:
  • 7 years of transportation engineering experience
  • B.S., Civil Engineering or related engineering degree
  • *Experience as a Project Manager with strong knowledge and understanding of developing and managing scope, schedule, and budget
  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize problems, think creatively, work independently, and deliver high quality work with minimal supervision
  • Experience with leading the development of a complete Plans, Specs and Estimate package for MDOT
  • Excellent communication, technical, and business development skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, and Power Point        
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies (DO)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer (PE) in Michigan
  • Experience managing and delivering projects for Michigan clients
  • Dynamic leadership characteristics, within the company and with clients
  • Local candidates preferred
