WSP USA’s San Diego office is seeking a senior marketing professional to join our tenured and team-oriented Southwest marketing group. The Marketing Manager is a key position supporting WSP’s continued growth and strategic business development. We are seeking a candidate with experience leading pursuit, proposal and interview teams pursuing a wide range of highway, transit and rail, ports and marine, and aviation projects.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership skills and will possess proven skills leading a marketing program. We are looking for an energetic, motivated and self-starter candidate with strong industry knowledge to support our office.  The position is responsible for leading or overseeing bid and proposal efforts, with the expectation that the individual is authoring and incorporating win strategies and themes into the proposal and interview. The marketing manager shall demonstrate the ability to take responsibility in developing strategic marketing plans for specific pursuits, including creation of tactical action plans, having discussions with potential teaming partners and subconsultants, issue identification/resolution, written strategy development, and presentation coaching.

The main responsibilities for this position include:
  • Works closely with the Area Manager to drive WSP’s marketing and sales process around must-win projects for the area.  Reviews portfolio of pursuits and works with AM to determine pursuit leadership, either delegating or personally taking the lead on pursuit development. 
  • Works with very limited oversight and drive the sales case/win strategy for area pursuits.  Possesses a high level of skill with interpersonal relationships and persuasive communications skills.
  • Leads pursuit teams in developing pursuit strategies and managing pursuits through the pre-RFP, proposal and interview phases.  Develops key sales messages, themes and differentiators. Oversees others leading pursuit teams and monitors progress and improvement of readiness score. Takes corrective action when necessary.
  • Responsible for overseeing the area’s overall proposal workload, often with multiple, overlapping deadlines. Ability to prioritize assignments and monitor proposal team progress and quality of individual pursuits and proposals, and take corrective action when necessary.
  • Supports client engagement teams with developing client-focused strategies and action plans to improve WSP’s visibility and reputation, understand WSP’s position with the client, and to solicit feedback on existing work.
  • Coaches and leads presentation teams including facilitating interview strategy meetings, providing constructive feedback to presenters on style and content, and preparing teams for Q&A and other presentation requirements.
  • Coordinates WSP’s visibility and participation in local industry events, professional organization meetings, conferences and other civic engagement activities.
  • Oversees area compliance with marketing policies and procedures (audit requirements, go/no-go facilitation, preliminary and final GNG, proposal quality and compliance, etc.)
  • Maintains accurate information in the marketing system regarding the area’s marketing performance
  • Follows WSP’s high standards for ethical behavior and quality in all marketing activities
  • Supports annual strategic planning initiatives
  • Participates in SMPS and/or professional development activities to increase business acumen and develop industry relationships


<div><strong>Minimum Qualifications/Requirements</strong></div> <ul> <li>Bachelor’s Degree in marketing, communications, business, journalism or related field</li> <li>Ten (10) years of experience in the AEC industry</li> <li>Excellent leadership skills with demonstrated sales record</li> <li>Excellent communication and coordination skills (both oral and written)</li> <li>Superior organizational, time management and interpersonal skills</li> </ul> <ul> <li>Ability to develop internal strategies to support business development activity </li> <li>Excellent interpersonal and communications skills with emphasis on superior persuasive writing/editing and presentation and interview coaching ability</li> <li>Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign a must, Illustrator and Photoshop a plus) and Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel</li> </ul> <div> </div> <div>This position will primarily focus in the Southwest region but may serve pursuits in the Western U.S.  Position will be based out of the San Diego office.</div>
