Join us at BGCAPP (Blue Grass Chemical Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant) where we will design, build, systemize, test, operate and close the plant whose mission is the safe and environmentally sound destruction of the chemical weapons stockpile stored at the Blue Grass Army Depot (BGAD) in Richmond, KY. The 15,000 acre depot stores mustard and nerve agent in rockets and projectiles. Our design concept for the pilot plant maximizes the use of existing technology from other successful chemical demilitarization facilities and well as First of a Kind (FOAK) technology. Parsons is currently seeking a Maintenance Technician.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform a variety of journeyman mechanical, welder/pipefitter, painter/carpenter trade functions in the installation/removal or corrective/preventive maintenance, repair or modification of facility systems, equipment and components, such as conveyors, compressors, cranes, piping, pumps and valves, etc.
  • Must be able to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, layouts and specifications in the performance of these duties to ensure system integrity is maintained.
  • In performing emergency repairs to systems, equipment and components, record the asfound condition as well as the repaired condition; investigate operational reports of equipment failure and analyze system characteristics to determine cause of failure and necessary corrective action.
  • Demonstrate and conduct required inspection and testing of equipment and components as necessary to complete work packages and ensure systems are returned to operational conditions.
  • Follow predetermined checklist in the performance of preventive maintenance of facility equipment and systems.
  • Utilize a variety of hand tools, power tools, and measurement and test equipment in the performance of duties.
  • Set up and demonstrate pressure test as necessary to complete work packages and return systems to operational conditions.
  • Assure code and building standards are met.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • High school or equivalent education and journey-level experience in an operating demilitarization, chemical, power, processing, industrial service or manufacturing plant in one or more of the following crafts: pipe fitter, boilermaker, welder, millwright, machinist, plant mechanic or HVAC mechanic


  • Completion of a formal apprenticeship, similar accredited training program (such as vocational, trade, commercial or military) in the mechanical field or journeyman certification, and minimum of four years journey-level industrial maintenance experience in an operating demil, chemical, power, processing, industrial service or manufacturing plant in one or more of the following crafts: pipe fitter, boilermaker, welder, millwright, machinist, plant mechanic or HVAC mechanic.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Thorough understanding of mechanical equipment operation and mechanical equipment maintenance requirements and maintenance restrictions imposed by safety and environmental regulations.
  • Detail oriented and able to exercise good judgment in solving mechanical and equipment problems.
  • Able to develop technical solutions to address maintenance related problems while minimizing cost and impact on schedule.
  • Ability to perform precision work such as equipment alignment, reverse runout alignment, close tolerance fitting, along with pipe-fitting and working with pumps and valves experience.
  • If welder, must maintain annual re-certification.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in a toxic or hazardous work environment.
  • Computer literate in common software applications.

Special Job Requirements:

BGCAPP is subject to the Army Regulations (AR 50-6 Chemical Surety and AR 190-59 Chemical Agent Security Program) which govern persons performing work under the Chemical Personnel Reliability Program (CPRP) and Unescorted Access Program (UAP). Depending on the work performed and the access granted a government security investigation and other physical requirements may be mandated. Eligibility to be placed in a CPRP or UAP position requires US citizenship and the ability to successfully complete a National Agency Check with Local Credit Check. (NACLC).

BGCAPP is a Drug Free Workplace. All employees are subject to and agree to random drug and alcohol testing as a condition of continued employment for the duration of their assignment.

This position may also require use of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and personnel must pass a respirator fit test and pulmonary function test.

Lifting/Carrying: Occasionally, up to 50 lbs. Climbing: Occasionally. Bending/Kneeling: Occasionally. Sitting: Infrequent. Walking/Standing: Frequently. Hearing: Able to hear audible alarms. Vision: Able to see/read/understand warning lights/signs.

Ability to obtain and maintain Blue Grass Army Depot (BGAD) site access is required. Access requirements include completion of a local records check and National Crime Information Center (NCIC) check.

BGCAPP operates on a 24/7 schedule including weekends and holidays. Ability to work a flexible schedule may be required.
