WSP is currently initiating a search for a Planning and Environment Manager for the New York City region, located in our NY City office.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Growth and diversification of project portfolio – the successful candidate will use their experience and knowledge to develop and implement a clear vision and plan to grow and diversify the portfolio of projects in planning and environmental assessment. 
  • Identification of opportunities and a prioritized and specific approach to deliver
  • Identify and include junior staff in meaningful roles in client meetings and business development
  • Business development and networking capabilities – the successful candidate has demonstrated their ability to grow and maintain a large professional network through professional organizations and the attendance of client commission and committee meetings. The candidate will be comfortable networking in and growing relationships at both a technical and policy level, and will can consider both perspectives on behalf of our clients.
  • Personnel growth and mentorship – the ability to identify opportunities for junior staff to grow in project management, strategic and business planning, and business development
  • Be responsible for the financial health of the planning practice in the NY area.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • A minimum of fifteen years’ experience; advanced degrees may substitute for one or more years of experience  
  • Knowledge of planning principles and practices; working experience with regulatory and environmental review processes
  • Proven business development track record and show a track record of successfully managing a pipeline of work for their staff
  • Strong relationships with city agencies, regional planning agencies, state agencies and private developers.
  • Team leadership and staff development, including an ability to leverage existing skillsets and encourage staff participation in the pursuit of new projects
  • Project management expertise
  • Provide a successful track record of staying within budget and schedule on projects they have managed.
  • Ability to demonstrate a consistent track record of delivering work on-time, on-budget, and can show repeat business with a client – ideally in increasing amounts and/or responsibility.
  • Experience preparing planning studies, technical reports, for a wide variety of transportation and transit agencies
  • Good organizational skills, multi-tasking capabilities and attention to detail
  • Ability to work well independently and in a group setting
  • Experience working with NY City agencies, (MTA, EDC, Etc), NYSDOT, PANYNJ, NYMTC and other local and regional private entities and public sector agencies
  • Ability to travel out of the immediate area and to work outside of regular work hours if needed
  • Member and active participant in industry organizations such as WTS, ULI and APA
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Completion of Leadership or Advanced Management Training
  • Advanced degree(s)
