WSP is currently searching for a Principal Consultant charged with leading our Managed Lanes & Roadways practice within Southern California.
Primary Roles and Responsibilities
We are recruiting a highly motivated self-starter with practical experience in project and program management for transportation systems planning, engineering and operations to join a dynamic multidisciplinary team. The ideal candidate will have broad-based, hands-on experience with the current state of the practice in managed lanes, congestion pricing, tolling, intelligent transportation systems (ITS), and freeway management.  The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to manage and help execute significant projects and tasks as leader of a multi-disciplinary team. We seek problem solvers who combine strong written and verbal communications skills, demonstrated quantitative and analytical skills, knowledge of transportation operations strategies, and the ability to develop innovative solutions independently and master new concepts quickly to deliver high quality work.
This individual will be a key member of the national Managed Lanes & Roadways team, and will be charged with leading business development, project and program management, planning, and deployment of Managed Lanes projects throughout California, supported by a national team of planners, engineers, financial and management analysts, and technical specialists on project delivery.  This role requires technical and project management competencies, staff supervisory experience, and skills at business development and forging client relationships for the short and long terms.
The Principal Consultant position offers great opportunities for professional growth. You will work directly as and with industry thought leaders to identify and apply evolving requirements and innovative practices to large, highly visible projects across the United States. You will help build the company through coordination with key clients in the marketplace.  Key activities:
  • Provide leadership in continuing to develop our managed lanes, managed motorways, intelligent transportation services (ITS), connected / automated vehicles (CAV), and shared mobility practices across all our markets throughout California
  • Lead the development of opportunities for new business in managed lanes, managed motorways, and support business development for strategic projects in ITS, CAV, and shared mobility, including assistance to clients in establishing dedicated programs
  • Lead and deliver complex, multidisciplinary managed lanes and managed motorways consulting projects
  • Establish great working relationships with other parts of the business in the US and internationally
  • Support the professional growth of our junior consultants within local offices in southern California and in the Transportation Operations Strategy Business Line
  • Guide junior staff in the production of deliverables; provide QA/QC on deliverables
  • Recruit and build a team to capitalize on growing workload
