POSITION SUMMARY

The Quality Control Manager (QCM) is responsible for managing and performing the daily QC responsibilities of specific AIS projects to ensure the project is constructed in accordance with the established minimum standards. The QCM role includes direct oversight and review of the entire documentation and physical inspection phase of the work flow process and working with other in-house personnel (e.g.: Project Managers, Superintendents, etc.) and external personnel to produce and document a quality product. The QCM reports directly to AIS’s Area/Program Manager for the sake of assuring that a conflict of interest does not occur among the productivity, schedule, and the quality objectives of the project.

Employee’s Duties will include but not be limited to:

RESPONSIBILITIES & GENERAL JOB DUTIES

It is the role of the Quality Control Manager (QCM) to perform all the major QC activities required to construct the project at hand and to provide in a timely manner the written documentation described in each project’s specific contract documents as follows:

  • Create, update and maintain the project submittal log and all other project specific quality control reports
  • Review shop drawings and submittals for conformance with project specifications by direct review and by leveraging the knowledge and experience of others in the project team when necessary
  • Document QC meetings with site management, team and customers and provide written minutes as described in project specific contract documents
  • Provide written daily QC reports that reinforce activities that are being constructed in conformance with each specific project’s established standard and constructively confronts non-conformances to produce the desired outcome in a timely manner
  • Conduct preparatory, initial and follow-up meetings to establish an understanding of the standards of care desired for each definable feature of work. Verify that checklists are being used and signed off prior to the placement of concrete, steel and other similar items of work
  • Verify and document that all materials received for the project are in conformance with the approved submittal, are handled and stored appropriately and are acceptable for use in the project
  • Conduct preconstruction meetings with new and existing subcontractors and the superintendent at least two days prior to the start of each new phase of the work to discuss issues that affect quality. Document these meetings in the daily QC report and Preparatory Phase reports
  • Schedule, document the results of, and maintain a log of all code and independent inspections that are required. Clearly document, correct and re-inspect all non-conformances prior to covering up work
  • Conduct periodic follow-up inspections to verify that work is proceeding with the contract documents and the approved submittals. (Desired results come from what is inspected, not what is expected.)
  • Document and distribute pre-punch lists, punch lists and the completion of these lists when appropriate
  • Document final inspections, certificates of occupancy and acceptance of the works and various phases thereof
  • Assemble and forward project closeout documents as per customer’s requirement
  • Stop work if necessary, to resolve matters that affect safety, quality and/or inhibit the logicalprogress of work

COMMUNICATIONS AND COORDINATION

  • Complete timely and accurate reports on projects in accordance with corporate policies.
  • Ensure effective communications within the Brad Cole Construction Team, clients, engineers, etc.
  • Facilitate resolution of any problems and conflicts both within the Brad Cole Construction Teamand with customers.
  • Communicate with customer on project’s progress to ensure all customer goals are met.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND CONDITIONS
  • This position requires working in the internal and external environment.
  • The duties of this position are typically performed in an office setting with normal ranges of temperature and a moderate to high level of office background noise. The majority of duties areperformed while sitting at a desk.
  • Communication typically occurs through face-to-face interaction, as well as via e-mail, telephoneand written correspondence. This job also requires the ability to use other office equipment such as copier, fax machine, etc.
  • Occasionally travel to meetings throughout the office and at other company office sites and clientlocations.
  • Constantly work in a team environment, effectively and efficiently achieving goals, improvingprocesses and resolving problems.
  • This position requires a flexible work schedule; night and/or weekends may be required.
PHYSICAL / MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Requires considerable concentration and focus. It is subject to stress caused by a changing environment, diversity in the organization, tight deadlines and workload.
  • Normal concentration/intensity, which includes prolonged mental effort.
  • Normal memory, taking into consideration the amount and type of information.
  • Normal complexity of decision making.
  • Normal physical mobility, which includes movement from place to place on the job taking distance and speed into account. Note: This job description reflects management’s assignment of essential functions; it does not prescribe or restrict the tasks that may be assigned.
  • Normal physical strength to handle routine lifting and transporting of moderately heavy objects, such as computers and peripherals.
Minimum Qualifications
  • B.S. degree in engineering, construction management or various or quality degrees and 5 years of direct experience or 10 years of relevant experience;
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in the civil construction industry;
  • Professional credentials – current CQM certification;
  • Strong working knowledge of civil or infrastructure construction work;
  • Strong knowledge of the sequencing of work and the strategy of creating effective project schedules;
  • Good understanding of project change administration and the effect of the quality aspects of the project;
  • Solid understanding of means and methods of construction for civil project work and/or the renovation of commercial and industrial facilities;
  • Proficient with computer software used in the construction industry.
