WSP is currently initiating a search for a Rail Vehicle Mechanical Engineer for our Atlanta, Goergia or Boston, Massachusetts office.  This position reports to the Manager Rail Vehicles - East, within WSP’s Transit & Rail Technical Excellence Center.  The selected individual will be responsible for providing Full Time engineering and technical expertise for FFD’s rail vehicle practice. The selected candidate will be supporting WSP’s clients engaged in the procurement, maintenance and operation of rail fleets employing all modes of rail technologies. Experience in rail vehicles and associated specifications, standards, and recommended practices would be a plus. 
Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Assessment of mechanical systems located on a rail vehicle and associated maintenance needs for those systems
  • Review design submittals and prepare detailed descriptions of review findings. Participate in formal design review meetings and technical working sessions
  • Preparation of progress reports and Technical Specification documents of mechanical systems
  • Conduct first-article-inspections and witness electro-mechanical equipment undergoing qualification testing, including; shock and vibration, environmental, electrical, and functional testing
  • Technical responsibility for the preparation of technical reports in accordance with client's requests
  • Investigation of rolling stock and related systems issues as requested by the client
  • Active participation in new business efforts including assisting with new pursuits
  • Perform billable work and other tasks as assigned and best fits training and ability

<div>Minimum Qualifications:</div> <ul> <li>10 years’ experience in a rail and transit related field </li> <li>Knowledge of and experience with the mechanical systems associated with rail vehicles such as brakes, carbody structures, couplers, diesel engines, gearboxes, HVAC, and trucks.  Specific significant expertise in one of these systems is a plus.</li> <li>Ability to coordinate multiple activities in a logical and orderly manner</li> <li>Knowledge of and experience with rail vehicle technologies</li> <li>Good communication and writing skills</li> <li>The ability to work in a disciplined manner with little supervision</li> </ul> <div> </div> <div>Preferred Qualifications</div> <ul> <li>Bachelor’s degree in a related field</li> <li>Advanced degree(s) preferred</li> </ul> <div> </div> <div>About WSP USA</div> <div> </div> <div>WSP USA is the U.S. operating company of one of the world's leading engineering and professional services firms.
