WSP is currently initiating a search for a Regional Project Accountant for one of our Central Region offices (Chicago, Detroit, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Kansas City, St. Louis, Indianapolis). This role can be remote with going into office on occasion for meets, training, etc.
 
REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience in related field), and a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience.  Must have strong organizational and communication skills and understanding of accounting and contracting principles. Some mentoring or training experience. Ability to work with all levels of teams.  Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and accounting software. Strong problem-solving skills.  Familiarity with Oracle is preferred.  Experience with an engineering, construction or consulting firm is a plus.
 
JOB SUMMARY: Very senior project accountant who works independently under minimal supervision.  Provides project accounting support to one or more Project Managers and/or Project Teams on larger/more complex projects. May train or supervise staff. Ensures all data in Oracle is up to date on assigned projects, including funding, budgets and project maintenance.  Analyzes project financial performance and may audit other projects for manager.        
 
MAJOR DUTIES: 
  • May mentor/train or supervise more Junior project accountants.
  • Complete understanding of contract terms and conditions.
  • Completes large and/or complex project set ups, modifications, and closeouts, and may review those drafted by a more junior PA.
  • May close other projects for more junior PAs.
  • Develops analyses on labor breakage, cost trending, or other various project related financial reports on a regular and/or ad hoc basis.  May assist other PAs with development of reports and interpretation of analyses done on projects.
  • Monitor and analyze revenue and unbilled balances to ensure proper revenue recognition. Reviews and reports on project financial performance
  • Reviews and processes complex subconsultant invoices and establishes and maintains subconsultant purchase orders.  May train other PAs in purchase order system and use.
  • Directs billers on large and/or complex invoice requirements, including preparation, format and distribution. May help junior PAs with setting up complicated invoice formats or Automated Invoice Formats.  Reviews draft invoices and follows up through invoice release and sub payment.  Monitors any delinquent accounts receivables and/or unbilled costs through resolution.
  • Participates and contributes as needed in project review meetings
  • Provides audit responses for Project Manager
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:
  • 7+ years relevant experience
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite especially Excel
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Oracle experience
  • Experience with an engineering, construction or consulting firm
  • Leadership/Mentoring of others
