WSP is currently initiating a search for a Resident Engineer working out of our field office  in Allston, Massachusetts and leading our Harvard - Allston Campus Infrastructure construction management and inspection activities from preconstruction through closeout.
 
The Resident Engineer will report to the WSP Project Manager during the construction phase of major underground water, sewer and storm water project, ranging in construction value from $20 to $30 million.  As part of a collaborative team, the Resident Engineer will supervise a staff of 3-4 field engineers and inspectors, while leading the management, administration and inspection process. Client facing, the ideal candidate will interface regularly with the utility owners, client representatives, design engineers and construction contractors, while overseeing the daily construction, administration and inspection activities.
 
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Chair progress meetings and prepare or review and accept meeting minutes.
  • Supervise a field staff of engineers and inspectors, responsible for contract administration, inspection and documentation.
  • Oversee technical submittal, shop drawing, and RFI process. In collaboration, with the Project Manager take the lead to resolve issues.
  • Oversee quality assurance/control, daily inspection and reporting, and materials sampling and testing.
  • Review and approve contractor pay estimates.
  • Identify potential change orders, and seek to mitigate impact. Prepare independent estimates for reconciling costs and negotiating fair and equitable adjustments.
  • Coordinate utility testing to verify the quality of construction meets the contract requirements and industry standards. 
  • Work with utility owners to expedite acceptance and turnover.
  • Oversee document control management, as performed by staff.
  • Communicate effectively with all stakeholders including utility owners, the client, contractors, designers and the inspection team.
  • Assist the Project Manager with overall project administration, as instructed.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or Construction Management
  • 10 years of construction project engineering and inspection experience, including evidence of effective staff supervision and management.
  • Strong computer skills including MS Suite and Project, Adobe, Bluebeam, SharePoint or others.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
