WSP is currently initiating a search for a Resident Engineer/Construction Manager for our Baltimore-Market Place office.
 
Overview
The ideal candidate will be an engineer with experience in managing the construction and inspection effort for utility infrastructure projects for the water and wastewater industry. The selected candidate must demonstrate relevant experience in collaboration with the General Contractor, Design Engineer and facility owner, coordination of inspection staff, managing project cost and scheduling, client invoicing, and document control. The successful candidate will contribute to resolving design and field conflicts in order to minimize time and cost impacts.
 
Job Responsibilities:
  • Be in residence at the site to oversee and monitor progress and lead the inspection staff and ensure conformance to all applicable contract specifications, drawings, policies and procedures.
  • Assist in resolution of design errors, omissions and field conflicts Recommend feasible responses to the project Resident Engineer
  • Plan ahead in order to foresee problem areas that may potentially cause a delay/claim situation and provide input to solve the problems in order to minimize time and cost impacts
  • Review Contractor's Requests for Information (RFI).  Recommend feasible responses to the project Resident Engineer
  • Review all claims and disputes.  Recommend feasible resolution to the project Resident Engineer.
  • Monitor and proactively troubleshoot the Contractor's CPM schedule to track progress in an effort to help keep the project on schedule.  Provide input to the project Resident Engineer
  • Review Contractor's monthly payment application for accuracy with field progress
  • As the work progresses, review the Contractor's Record Drawings and maintain a set of as-built / red line Contract Drawings containing all change orders, field orders, and RFI’s
  • Prepare punch lists

Requirements

Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in building construction, construction management, civil engineering, or architecture.
  • 5-7 years in construction or design of utility infrastructure projects for the water and wastewater
  • Outstanding written, analytical, and organizational skills.  Excellent oral, interpersonal, and overall communications skills
  • Previous financial reporting and invoicing experience
  • Read / understand / interpret rebar, concrete, structural, pipe, electrical and instrumentation shop drawings
  • Software experience must include Primavera P6 or MS Project, Oracle Contract Management, E-Builder or Primavera Construction Management 14 or greater, and MS Office
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
