WSP is currently initiating a search for a Safety Manager (Construction) for our client's Orangeburg, NY Offices.
 
The Safety Manager, using established procedures and guidelines, will assist in the management of safety on OGS (Office of General Services) projects.
 
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide Safety Oversight on Construction Projects to monitor that all of the various safety requirements in the Building Code and OSHA are followed.
  • Review local, state and federal safety requirements
  • Provide guidance to project management. 
  • Train project staff project staff on OSHA safety standards in construction and general industry.
  • Conduct safety inspections and audit and create/maintain appropriate documentation.  
  • Consult and assist managers in development of safety programs and policies for projects. 
  • Develop and implement Safety plans
  • Reviews and observe that contractors are complying with their approved safety plans.
  • Prepare daily safety report.
  • Conduct accident and incident investigation and training to include reporting and corrective action. 
  • Provide review and comment on construction contractor adherence to OSHA, contractual safety requirements and local building codes 
  • Travel throughout the region is required, vehicle will be necessary with valid driver’s license.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field or HS diploma with qualifying experience
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience as a safety manager on construction projects
  • OSHA 40 Certification Required
  • Knowledge of hazard assessment and mitigation techniques
  • Ability to utilize an electronic document management system
  • Ability to exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures  
  • Proven ability to adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • This hire will be contingent upon client selection and successful background check.

  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
This role is subject to a client mandated drug/alcohol testing policy. As such, employee may be subject to random drug/alcohol tests. A copy of the client mandated drug/alcohol testing policy will be provided during employee onboarding and is available upon applicant request.
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous experience in facility construction
  • CSP certifications is a plus
  • Current authorization to teach OSHA 10 and 30-Hour Outreach Training is preferred
